About the Role

We are looking for a head of software engineering to lead the technology and engineering team powering our growing payments and FinTech platform

.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for building high-availability, low-latency transaction infrastructure

, strengthening financial and technology controls, scaling engineering teams, and driving the technology roadmap for a high-volume payments business.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience across payments, fintech, banking or large-scale digital commerce

, combined with the ability to lead large engineering teams and build technology platforms where reliability, transaction integrity, security and compliance are business-critical

.

What You’ll Own ⚡ Payments Infrastructure, Scale & Reliability

- Own the architecture and engineering strategy for high-availability, low-latency payment and transaction processing systems .

- Build and scale infrastructure supporting high transaction volumes and thousands of transactions per second (TPS) .

- Drive engineering for UPI, payment gateways, payment processing, merchant payments and integrations with financial/payment networks .

- Establish strong standards for availability, resilience, latency, capacity planning and disaster recovery .

- Build systems capable of scaling across products, transaction volumes, partners and geographies.
- Drive observability across critical payment infrastructure, including monitoring, alerting, distributed tracing and production intelligence .

? Financial Integrity, Reconciliation & Controls

- Ensure technology architecture supports transaction integrity and zero-loss accounting .

- Drive robust ledger, transaction accounting and reconciliation systems .

- Build automated controls for transaction matching, settlement and exception management.
- Partner with Risk, Compliance and Operations teams to establish technology-driven fraud prevention and financial guardrails .

- Ensure engineering systems support strong auditability, traceability and financial controls .

? Engineering Organisation & Leadership

- Lead and scale a large, high-performing software and platform engineering organisation .

- Build an effective leadership structure across engineering managers, senior engineering leaders and technical teams .

- Develop managers of managers and create a strong engineering leadership pipeline.
- Establish engineering ownership,



accountability and delivery standards across product and platform squads.
- Drive engineering velocity while maintaining quality, reliability and security.
- Own hiring strategy, organisation design, talent development and succession planning.
- Build a culture of technical excellence, ownership, innovation and continuous improvement .

☁️ Technology Strategy & Modernisation

- Define and execute the long-term technology and engineering roadmap .

- Drive adoption of cloud-native architectures, microservices, event-driven systems and distributed infrastructure .

- Evaluate technology choices based on scalability, reliability, security, performance and business impact.
- Drive modernisation of legacy systems where required.
- Establish technology standards across architecture, development, testing, deployment and production operations.
- Drive engineering productivity through automation, developer platforms and modern SDLC practices .

? AI & Engineering Innovation

- Identify opportunities to apply AI and Agentic AI across the software development lifecycle.
- Explore AI-driven approaches to software development, testing, code quality, observability, incident management and engineering productivity .

- Build responsible adoption frameworks for emerging technologies while maintaining security and compliance.
- Encourage engineering teams to continuously evaluate new technologies that can improve scale and operational efficiency.

What We’re Looking For

- 10–15+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Technology or Platform Engineering.
- 5–10+ years of experience leading large and distributed engineering organisations .

- Strong leadership experience in FinTech, Payments, Banking, Financial Services or large-scale digital commerce .

- Experience leading large engineering organisations, ideally across 50+ engineers or comparable scale.
- Deep understanding of payment processing, payment gateways, PSP infrastructure, UPI, merchant payments and transaction processing .

- Strong understanding of ledger systems, transaction accounting, reconciliation and settlement architecture .

- Proven experience building high-availability, low-latency and high-throughput systems .





- Experience with systems operating at thousands of TPS and/or significant daily transaction volumes .

- Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture and cloud-native platforms .

- Experience with multi-region cloud architecture, disaster recovery and business continuity .

- Strong understanding of PCI-DSS, SOC 2, RBI requirements and technology risk controls .

- Experience partnering with Risk, Compliance, Security, Product, Operations and Business leadership .

- Demonstrated ability to build engineering organisations, develop senior leaders and drive execution at scale.

Technical Environment Robust exposure to some or most of the following will be valuable:

- B.Tech / B.E. / M.Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline .

- Executive technology, leadership or business education/certification is an advantage.
