Job Summary
We are looking for an Industrial UX Engineer to convert operator, supervisor and engineer workflows into intuitive shop-floor experiences. The role combines user research, interaction design and practical understanding of manufacturing environments to create HMIs, dashboards and decision-support interfaces that are safe, clear and adoption-focused.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct contextual interviews, process walk-throughs and task analysis with operators, supervisors, maintenance, quality and engineering users.
- Map personas, journeys, information needs, decisions, pain points and exception scenarios across shop-floor workflows.
- Translate requirements into information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes and detailed user-interface specifications.
- Design responsive HMIs, dashboards, alerts, work instructions and decision-support experiences for desktop, tablet and industrial displays.
- Apply human-factors principles for glanceability, alarm prioritization, error prevention, accessibility and use in noisy or safety-sensitive environments.
- Define reusable components and design-system standards aligned with the clients brand and application architecture.
- Plan and facilitate usability testing; synthesize evidence and iterate designs based on observed behaviour and feedback.
- Work with Digital Twin, data, AI and application engineers to ensure feasibility and accurate translation into production.
- Support user acceptance testing, training assets, rollout feedback and adoption measurement.
- Maintain design rationale, specifications, interaction states and traceability to business requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 5-8 years of experience in UX, product design, interaction design or human-machine interface design.
- Portfolio demonstrating research,
workflow design, prototyping and delivered enterprise or industrial products.
- Proficiency in Figma or equivalent tools, component libraries, responsive design and design handoff.
- Experience designing role-based dashboards, operational workflows, alerts, forms and complex data visualizations.
- Working knowledge of usability testing, accessibility and human-centred design practices.
- Ability to simplify complex operational information without losing critical context or control.
- Good facilitation, storytelling and stakeholder-management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in design, human-computer interaction, engineering, computer science or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with manufacturing, MES, Digital Twin, maintenance, quality or control-room applications.
- Knowledge of industrial HMI conventions, alarm management, edge-device constraints and shop-floor ergonomics.
- Basic understanding of HTML/CSS, front-end frameworks or business intelligence tools to improve design feasibility.
- Experience measuring adoption, task completion, error reduction and user satisfaction.
Expected Delivery Outcomes
- Validated end-to-end workflows and high-fidelity prototypes.
- Consistent, accessible design specifications ready for engineering.
- Improved usability, adoption and decision speed for shop-floor users.
Working Style and Stakeholder Engagement
- Work as part of a cross-functional delivery POD with manufacturing, engineering, data, cloud, enterprise application and change teams.
- Communicate complex technical topics in explicit business language and maintain disciplined documentation, risk tracking and knowledge transfer.
- Support client workshops, design reviews, testing, deployment and adoption activities; travel to manufacturing locations when required.
