Role Overview (Bridging Sales and Operations)
- This position sits between Sales and Operations functions and feeds both, which makes it different from a standard design seat.
- The centre of gravity is detailed design and project delivery. Once a pump station job is won, you produce the engineering that turns it into a buildable, compliant station ready for the factory floor. You also support the front end, contributing sizing and design input that helps the Estimating and Business Development team price and win infrastructure work.
- You report to the Design Manager and work day-to-day with the CAD Drafting team, the Project Managers and the Estimating function. You will not draft the drawings yourself. Instead, you produce the design, calculations, equipment selections, data sheets and dimensioned sketches that the drafters turn into general-arrangement and fabrication drawings.
- The Design Manager handles most contact with clients, councils and consultants. As you settle into the role, some of that contact will be handed across to you, so you need to be comfortable representing the design directly when called on.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer complete sewer, stormwater and wastewater pump stations for developments, subdivisions, councils and water authorities, across both precast concrete and fiber glass station types.
- Size wet wells, calculate design flows and duty points, and select pumps to suit each sites hydraulic load and population-equivalent requirements.
- Produce design calculations, equipment schedules, pump and valve selections, data sheets and marked-up sketches, then hand these to the CAD Drafting team for drawing production.
- Work as a generalist across the disciplines each project demands: mechanical and hydraulic (pumps, pipework, valves and controls), structural (concrete wet wells, valve chambers and FRP tanks), and process (wastewater handling and separation).
- Develop pipework layouts, station configurations, and control and instrumentation requirements, including telemetry, SCADA and Modbus options.
- Support Estimating and Business Development with concept sizing, preliminary layouts and technical input that strengthen proposals and tenders.
- Prepare documentation for water-authority submission and review, and contribute to as-built and operations and-maintenance packages on handover.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and the factory through fabrication and commissioning, resolving design queries as stations are built.
- Take direct contact with consultants, councils or builders when the Design Manager hands it across.
Technical Requirements
- A relevant engineering degree (mechanical, civil or structural, or a related discipline).
- Mid-to-senior experience designing pumping systems, water or wastewater infrastructure, or comparable rotating-equipment and piping work.
- A working command of pump sizing, hydraulics and pump station configuration.
- The ability to operate as a generalist across mechanical, structural and process design, and the judgement to know when specialist input is needed.
- Client-ready spoken and written English. This is non-negotiable. The role involves real-time work with the Australian team and direct client contact at times.
- Comfort designing through data sheets and sketches for drafters, rather than relying on producing the CAD yourself.
Preferred (and highly valued)
- Knowledge of Australian standards (AS/NZS) and water-authority specifications. This is a genuine advantage and one of the biggest contributions you can make in the role.
- Exposure to pump brands such as Sulzer or Grundfos, or peers including KSB, Xylem or Flygt.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Experience with manufacturer pump-selection software. Training is provided where needed.
- A background in precast concrete or fiber glass pump station design.
Work from home & Logistics (India to Australia)
- The role is fully remote, working from home in India.
- You will work full Australian business hours, 8:00am–5:00pm AEST. This is a real-time collaboration role rather than a partial-overlap arrangement, so expect an early-morning start in India (Australian time runs roughly 4.5 to
5.5 hours ahead of IST, depending on daylight saving).
- You will be provided with all equipment, software and licences required for the role.
- You are engaged through Crewzio, which places remote India-based engineers with Australian engineering firms.
You work as a dedicated, long-term member of the Client’s team.
