Roles & Responsibilities:

- Operate and manage the heart-lung machine during cardiothoracic surgeries, ensuring optimal patient perfusion and physiological stability.
- Perform setup, priming, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) equipment.
- Conduct pre-operative inspection and functional checks of perfusion equipment, oxygenators, pumps, and monitoring systems.
- Monitor and manage anticoagulation (ACT), blood gases, electrolyte balance, temperature, and hemodynamic parameters during procedures.
- Administer blood products, cardioplegia solutions, and other perfusion-related medications as directed by the surgical team.
- Provide intraoperative support for adult and pediatric cardiac surgeries, including valve replacements, CABG, congenital cardiac procedures, and aortic surgeries.
- Assist in balloon angioplasty and other interventional cardiology procedures by preparing and operating hemodynamic support devices such as the Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and providing emergency cardiopulmonary support when required.
- Manage extracorporeal life support systems,



including ECMO initiation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and weaning (where applicable).
- Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, interventional cardiologists, nurses, and cath lab teams to ensure safe patient care.
- Respond effectively to intraoperative emergencies, equipment failures, and rapid clinical changes.
- Maintain accurate perfusion records, procedural documentation, and quality assurance logs.
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, patient safety standards, and hospital policies.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and inventory management of perfusion equipment and consumables.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing qualified education.
- Train and mentor junior perfusionists, interns, and students in perfusion techniques and equipment handling.
