Work activities :
1. Rectifier Transformer Design
Responsible for electrical and mechanical design of rectifier transformers for industrial and Convertor duty applications.
Develop and review transformer designs based on customer specifications, load characteristics, duty cycle and application requirements.
Design transformers for 6-pulse, 12-pulse, 18-pulse, 24-pulse and other multi- pulse rectifier applications, with OLTC or OCTC as applicable.
Evaluate harmonic currents, phase-shifting requirements, circulating currents and additional losses associated with rectifier loads.
Carry out various calculations applicable for transformer design.
Select suitable winding configurations, conductor sizes, insulation systems and cooling arrangements.
Review magnetic circuit and core design for optimum performance and minimum losses.
Design and review special winding arrangements required for phase-shifting and rectifier applications.
Ensure appropriate consideration of DC components, harmonic loading and non- linear loads.
2. Technical Design Review
close coordination with transformer vendor (if decided to buy transformer)/ draft specification / preliminary costing / technical negotiations for cost effective solutions.
Review design calculations, drawings and technical documents prepared by the vendor.
Ensure designs comply with customer specifications, approved technical offers and applicable standards.
Review design margins and identify potential technical risks before release for manufacturing.
Conduct design reviews and provide technical approvals as per the company's authorization matrix.
Develop solutions for technically challenging and customized transformer requirements.
Ensure standardization and optimization of design practices, materials and components.
Review total losses, including fundamental-frequency and harmonic-related losses.
Evaluate additional winding, structural and tank losses resulting from rectifier/harmonic currents.
Review thermal design and hot-spot calculations.
Select appropriate cooling methods such as ONAN, ONAF, OFAF or other application-specific cooling arrangements.
Ensure adequate thermal margins for continuous and cyclic loading.
Review temperature-rise calculations and factory test results
