1. Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer with strong expertise in the design and engineering of Safety Valves, Pressure Relief Valves, Control Valves, and other industrial valves.

The candidate will be responsible for developing valve designs from concept to production, preparing engineering drawings and calculations, ensuring compliance with applicable international standards, supporting manufacturing and quality teams, and resolving technical issues related to valve design and performance.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in valve design, pressure-containing components, material selection, sizing calculations, engineering standards, and design validation, particularly for safety and control valve applications.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Valve Design & Development

- Design and develop Safety Valves / Pressure Relief Valves and Control Valves as per customer requirements and applicable standards.
- Develop new valve designs and modify existing designs based on application and customer requirements.
- Prepare and review GA drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and sectional drawings.
- Design pressure-containing and pressure-retaining components such as body, bonnet, nozzle, disc/plug, seat, spindle/stem, spring housing, etc.
- Carry out design calculations for pressure-containing components and critical valve components.
- Select appropriate materials based on pressure, temperature, fluid, corrosion, and application requirements.
- Ensure interchangeability and manufacturability of components.

B. Safety Valve Engineering

- Design and engineer Safety Relief Valves / Pressure Safety Valves (PSV/PRV) for various industrial applications.
- Perform or review valve sizing and capacity calculations.
- Understand and apply requirements related to set pressure, blowdown, back pressure, relieving capacity, temperature, and service conditions.
- Work with applicable standards and codes such as API 520, API 521, API 526, API 527, ASME Section VIII, and other relevant standards.
- Support spring selection, nozzle sizing, trim selection, and valve performance requirements.
- Support testing and troubleshooting of safety valves.

C. Control Valve Engineering

- Design and engineer Control Valves for different industrial applications.




- Perform/review control valve sizing and selection based on process parameters.
- Understand parameters such as flow rate, pressure drop, temperature, fluid properties, Cv, flashing, cavitation, noise, and velocity.
- Select suitable valve type, trim, actuator, positioner, and accessories based on application requirements.
- Work with standards such as IEC 60534, ISA standards, ASME, API, and other applicable specifications.
- Coordinate with process/application engineers for technical selection and sizing.

D. Engineering Documentation

- Prepare and review:
- General Arrangement (GA) drawings
- Component/detail drawings
- Assembly drawings
- Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Technical specifications
- Datasheets
- Design calculation sheets
- Material specifications
- Inspection and testing requirements
- Review customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation for production, quality, procurement, and customers.
- Maintain proper revision control of drawings and engineering documents.

E. Manufacturing & Production Support

- Provide technical support to the Production, Quality, Purchase, and Assembly teams.
- Resolve design-related manufacturing issues and deviations.
- Review manufacturing feasibility and suggest design improvements.
- Participate in design reviews, production trials, and prototype development.
- Investigate valve failures and support root-cause analysis.
- Implement design improvements to improve valve performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.

F. Quality & Standards

- Ensure valve designs comply with applicable API, ASME, ISO, IEC, EN, and customer-specific standards.
- Support product testing, validation, and qualification activities.
- Coordinate with Quality for pressure testing, functional testing, performance testing, and inspection requirements.
- Support internal and customer audits related to design and engineering.
- Ensure designs meet required safety, reliability, and performance criteria.

3. Required Technical Skills

The candidate should have strong knowledge of:

- Safety Relief Valves / Pressure Safety Valves
- Pressure Relief Valve sizing and selection
- Control Valve design and sizing
- Industrial valve construction and components
- Pressure vessel and pressure-containing component design
- Valve materials and metallurgy
- Valve sealing and trim design
- Spring selection and design




- Actuator selection and sizing
- Valve testing and performance evaluation
- GD&T; and engineering drawing practices
- Design calculations and engineering analysis
- Manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, machining, welding, and assembly
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and design problem solving
- Product development and design optimization

4. Software / Tools

Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:

- AutoCAD
- SolidWorks / Creo / Inventor
- 3D CAD modelling
- ERP/PDM systems
- MS Excel for engineering calculations
- Valve sizing/calculation software

Knowledge of FEA/ANSYS will be an added advantage.

5. Standards & Codes

Working knowledge of relevant standards is required, particularly:

- API 520
- API 521
- API 526
- API 527
- ASME Section VIII
- IEC 60534
- API 6D, where applicable
- ISO 9001
- Relevant ASME, ASTM, EN, DIN, ISO and customer-specific standards

6. Educational Qualification

B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

Candidates with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and strong relevant valve design experience may also be considered.

7. Experience

- 3–7 years of relevant experience in valve design and engineering.
- Experience specifically in Safety Valves / Pressure Relief Valves and Control Valves will be preferred.
- Candidates from industrial valve manufacturing companies will be given preference.
- Robust exposure to manufacturing, testing, quality, and customer technical requirements is desirable.
