Job Title: Sustainability Officer

Job Purpose:

The Sustainability Officer will lead and oversee the hospital's sustainability initiatives, ensuring compliance with local regulations, optimizing resource usage, and promoting environmental stewardship. This role involves planning, implementing, and monitoring sustainable practices to achieve organizational goals in reducing environmental impact and enhancing resource efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Planning and Policy Development:
• Develop and implement strategic and operational plans to incorporate sustainability into hospital operations.
• Collaborate with senior management to align sustainability goals with organizational objectives.
• Review local regulations on climate issues and ensure hospital compliance.
• Prepare and update Job Descriptions (JDs) and Terms of Reference (TORs) in line with JCI manual requirements.

2. Awareness and Training:
• Organize hospital-wide communication campaigns to promote sustainability objectives among staff and patients.
• Conduct patient education through posters,



room instructions, and orientation sessions.
• Develop and oversee current hire orientation and annual staff training programs on sustainability topics.
• Build staff competencies across all levels, including department managers and cleaning staff.

3. Environmental Management and Monitoring:
• Conduct sustainability surveys and carbon footprint audits.
• Develop and implement action plans based on audit findings.
• Set and monitor KPIs related to energy, water usage, emissions, and resource optimization.
• Present annual reports on renewable energy usage, water conservation, and carbon footprint reduction to the Board.

4. Resource Optimization:
• Identify opportunities for energy, water, and emission reductions.
• Promote initiatives like onsite power generation, renewable energy consumption, and rainwater harvesting.
• Optimize purchases by evaluating multi-use versus single-use items and eliminating
