Position – Senior Design Engineer / Nesting

Qualification: Diploma / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering

Responsibilities

- Prepare 2D drawings and 3D models of transformer tanks and related components as per customer drawings and specifications.
- Prepare fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, cutting plans and bill of materials (BOM).
- Perform nesting of sheet metal plates to minimise material wastage and optimise sheet utilisation.
- Prepare CNC laser cutting, plasma cutting and gas cutting programs, as applicable.
- Check drawings for dimensions, tolerances, weld joints, material thickness and fabrication requirements.
- Plan plate cutting layouts based on material grade, thickness, plate size and production requirements.
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, Purchase and Quality departments for drawing clarification and manufacturing requirements.
- Review customer drawings and identify discrepancies before releasing drawings for production.
- Prepare and revise drawings as per customer requirements and engineering changes.
- Ensure proper control and distribution of approved drawings and maintain drawing revision records.
- Support production during fabrication, fit-up, welding and assembly activities.
- Identify opportunities to reduce material wastage, improve nesting efficiency and reduce fabrication costs.




- Ensure drawings and nesting plans comply with approved specifications and project requirements.

Required Skills

- Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant 2D/3D design software.
- Working knowledge of sheet metal design, nesting and CNC cutting.
- Knowledge of transformer tank fabrication, including plates, stiffeners, flanges, covers, lifting lugs and other tank components.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances.
- Knowledge of welding symbols, fabrication processes and material specifications.
- Experience in preparing BOMs, cutting lists and fabrication drawings.
- Knowledge of material optimisation and scrap reduction.
- Valuable coordination and problem-solving skills.

Software Knowledge

- Proficiency in AutoCAD and 2D fabrication drawing preparation.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor for 3D modelling and assembly drawings.
- Hands-on experience with nesting software such as SigmaNEST, Lantek, RADAN or equivalent.
- Knowledge of CNC laser/plasma cutting programming and sheet utilisation.
- Experience in preparing BOMs, cutting plans and fabrication drawings for transformer tanks.
- Knowledge of nesting optimisation and material wastage reduction.

Experience Requirements

- 5–8 years of experience in mechanical design, sheet metal fabrication or transformer tank manufacturing.
- Experience in nesting and CNC cutting for heavy transformer tank manufacturing will be preferred.
- Candidates with practical knowledge of fabrication drawings and material utilisation will be given preference.
