Role Description The Medical Coder at OMS Healthcare is a full-time, in office role based in Chennai. The individual in this position reviews patient records, clinical documentation, and provider notes to assign accurate ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with payer rules and regulatory guidelines. Day-to-day responsibilities include abstracting relevant information from medical charts, validating code selection, and ensuring that claims are complete, compliant, and submitted in a timely manner.

The role involves working closely with billing teams, clinicians, and quality assurance staff to resolve coding discrepancies and address documentation queries.

Coder is also expected to stay current with coding updates, payer requirements, and organizational policies to minimize denials and support revenue cycle performance.

Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, with the ability to apply guidelines accurately to diverse clinical scenarios.
- Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting medical records, including physician notes, diagnostic reports, and treatment plans.
- Experience with medical billing processes, claims submission workflows, and basic revenue cycle concepts.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations and standards, such as payer policies, compliance requirements, and documentation best practices.
- Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to identify and correct coding and documentation inconsistencies.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with providers, billing specialists, and internal teams.
- Ability to work on-site in Chennai, manage workload efficiently, and meet productivity and accuracy targets.
- Relevant certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, or equivalent) and prior experience in medical coding are highly preferred.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems or coding software.
