About NITS Engineering
NITS Engineering is a biomedical technology company building the next generation of biomedical devices, in vitro disease models, and engineering systems for drug discovery, regenerative medicine, and diagnostics. We combine precision hardware engineering with biomedical research to build the tools that take science from the lab bench to real world application.
About the RoleWe are looking for an Embedded and Electronics Intern to contribute to the development of electronics, firmware, and software for our 3D bioprinters. The role involves hands-on work across motion control, dispensing systems, sensors, embedded systems, and machine-control software.
Projects will be assigned based on the candidate's technical strengths, interests, and the team's requirements. We welcome candidates with strong fundamentals in one or more relevant areas and a willingness to work across hardware and software.
What You Will Do
- Bioprinter Development: Develop, integrate, and test printer subsystems involving motion control, extrusion and dispensing, temperature control, and automation.
- Firmware Development: Program and debug microcontrollers, including STM32, AVR, and ESP32 platforms.
- Electronics Design: Develop circuit schematics, design PCBs, prepare bills of materials (BOMs), and assist with board assembly and testing.
- Hardware Interfacing: Integrate sensors, actuators, and controllers using communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, RS232, RS485, USB, and Wi-Fi.
- Embedded Software: Develop and troubleshoot embedded Linux applications on single-board computers such as Raspberry Pi.
- Application Development:
Build software interfaces and applications that communicate with printer hardware and embedded systems using technologies such as Python, Qt, or React.
- Debugging and Testing: Diagnose hardware, firmware, communication, and software issues; conduct functional tests and document results.
- Technical Documentation: Maintain circuit diagrams, code documentation, test procedures, and development records.
What We Are Looking For
- Recently completed a B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electronics and Communication, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- Strong fundamentals in analog and digital electronics.
- Programming knowledge in C, C++, and/or Python.
- Familiarity with microcontrollers and embedded systems, including programming and debugging.
- Hands-on exposure to development boards and single-board computers such as Raspberry Pi.
- Understanding of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, RS232, RS485, and USB.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical problems systematically and document work clearly.
- Willingness to learn across electronics, firmware, software, and automation.
- Must have a personal laptop capable of running development tools such as IDEs, PCB design software, and compilers, as a company laptop will not be provided.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, React, or Qt.
- Previous academic, personal, or skilled projects involving embedded systems, PCB design, or electronics.
- Experience with 3D printing, bioprinting, or biomedical devices.
- Familiarity with 3D printer firmware such as Marlin or Klipper.
What You Will Gain
- A monthly stipend.
- Hands-on experience developing bioprinter electronics and embedded systems from design to functional prototypes.
- Exposure to hardware, firmware, software, and automation within a single product-development environment.
- Experience troubleshooting and integrating real engineering systems.
- Mentorship and opportunities to develop practical engineering skills alongside an experienced team.
