HEAD OF INJECTION MOULDING

Faridabad, Delhi NCR | In office | 12–18 years | Reports to the founders Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech or Diploma — Plastics, Polymer, Mechanical or Production Engineering Mobile handset industry moulding experience is mandatory — please read below before applying

Moulding is where our product starts, and where our cost is set. A part moulded badly becomes a part printed badly, assembled badly and rejected at pack — by which point we've paid for all of it.

You'd own moulding as a function: the floor, the process, the people, the capacity and the capital. That includes overmoulding — rigid shell with soft-touch elastomer — which is a meaningful part of what we produce and a materially harder process than single-shot.

We are only considering candidates from the mobile handset industry

We want to be direct about this so nobody wastes their time.

We make small, cosmetically critical parts — sub-millimetre wall sections, visible surfaces with no tolerance for sink or flow marks, tight fit against a device, and cosmetic standards closer to consumer electronics than to general plastics. A part that would pass in most moulding shops gets rejected here.

The discipline that produces that output is learned in the handset supply chain, and it doesn't transfer quickly from elsewhere. Excellent moulding experience in automotive, appliance, packaging, housewares or general engineering plastics is genuinely excellent experience — it just isn't what this role needs, and we'd be setting you up to struggle.

So: you should have spent meaningful time moulding handset housings, covers or cosmetic enclosures — at Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Realme, Transsion, Foxconn, Dixon, Lava or in their tier-one supplier base. Adjacent consumer electronics enclosure work at the same cosmetic standard will also be considered.

The thing that actually limits this floor

We're high-mix. Many moulds, frequent changes, moderate volume per run. In that environment the constraint usually isn't cycle time — it's changeover and the scrap that follows it. Every tool change costs setup hours, then costs more shots before the process stabilises. Across a week of changes that's a serious share of capacity spent producing nothing.

Most moulding operations measure cycle time obsessively and changeover barely at all. We'd like someone who goes after it.

What you'd build

- Changeover discipline — SMED method, prepared tooling, parallel setup, and a measured changeover time that comes down
- Validated parameter sets per mould, so a setter isn't rediscovering the process each time, and a first-off routine that reaches stable quickly and records what stable looked like
- Material handling discipline — polymer dried to spec before it goes near a machine.

Wet resin causes splay and cosmetic defects that get blamed on printing two stations later
- A skill matrix for setters and operators, with certification before anyone runs unsupervised, and cross-training so capacity doesn't depend on one person's attendance
- Real downtime and scrap data coded by cause, so improvement has something to aim at
- Capacity planning and the case for new machines as we grow

You'd own

- Moulding production across shifts, against the plan
- Scrap and first-pass yield at the machine. Your primary number
- Process capability, parameter control and changeover performance
- Machine utilisation, uptime and maintenance coordination
- Tool condition in production — shot counts, preventive maintenance schedules, spare inserts and components, and escalation to the tool room before a tool fails rather than after
- Tool repair and refurbishment decisions, with the cost case
- Moulding capacity decisions and capital proposals
- The moulding team — setters, operators, helpers, supervisors — including hiring and training
- Safety, 5S and housekeeping

You need

- 12+ years in injection moulding, with function or plant-level ownership rather than shift supervision alone
- Mobile handset moulding experience — mandatory. Housings, covers or cosmetic enclosures, at a handset OEM or in their tier-one supplier base. See the note above
- Hands-on process capability. You can set a machine, read a short shot, and tell a setter what to change and why
- Defect diagnosis: short shot, flash, sink, weld lines, warpage, splay, burn marks — cause, not just name
- Material knowledge — PC, ABS, PC/ABS, TPU, PP and filled grades; drying requirements, moisture sensitivity, masterbatch and regrind Overmoulding. A real part of our production and not a side skill:
- Two-shot and insert moulding — rotary platen, index and core-back methods, or mould-and-transfer. The machine and tool requirements of each, and when one suits better than the other
- Material pairing and bond — which combinations bond chemically, which need mechanical interlock, and how melt temperature, shore hardness and surface condition affect adhesion. TPU and TPE over PC and PC/ABS specifically
- Bond strength as an invisible defect. An overmoulded part can look perfect and delaminate weeks later in a customer's hand. It has to be designed and processed right, because inspection won't catch it.

Peel and bond testing is part of the job, not an afterthought
- Differential shrinkage and warpage between the two materials, and first-shot dimensional stability before the second shot
- Cycle balancing — the slower shot sets the cycle, which makes process optimisation here a different problem from single-shot
- Interface flash, colour bleed and the cosmetic defects specific to two-material parts

Tooling, in detail. This is not a nice-to-have for us:

- Tool construction — mould base and insert construction, steel grades and hardness, cold and hot runner systems, gate types and vestige, cooling layout and what it does to cycle and warpage, venting, ejection, slides and lifters, shut-off surfaces, surface finish and texture
- Two-shot tool construction — rotation and indexing, sealing at the material interface, second-shot shut-offs, and why these tools fail differently from single-shot ones
- Tool condition on the floor — reading flash as parting line wear, galling on slides, blocked vents causing burns, scaled water lines quietly adding seconds to cycle, ejector wear, hot runner tip and heater faults. Catching these before they become a stoppage or a scrap run
- Trials and correction — T0/T1/T2, reading trial results, steel-safe versus steel-removal corrections, shrinkage adjustment, and knowing when a correction is worth doing
- Repair, refurbish or replace, with the judgement and the cost case behind each
- The arbitration. The most valuable thing you'll do is decide whether a defect is a tool problem or a process problem. Process people blame the tool, tool rooms blame the process, and the part keeps failing while they argue. We want someone who settles it with evidence
- Demonstrated changeover or scrap reduction with numbers. We'll ask for before and after
- Team building across shifts, including developing setters
- Fluent Hindi; working English

Good to have: tool room or tool design background earlier in your career, scientific moulding or DOE training, multi-cavity and high-cavitation tooling, IMD/IML, take-out robots and automation, SMED implementation, CIPET background, OEE systems.

Where this sits alongside our Tooling Engineer: they own mould design review and new tool development; you own tools in production — condition, maintenance, correction and when to retire them. You'll disagree occasionally, and that's healthy.

Tell us: which handset programmes or customers you moulded for, your overmoulding experience and the material pairs you've run, your average changeover time and what you did to it, your scrap rate and how it was measured, one defect where you proved it was the tool and not the process (or the reverse) and how you proved it, and the cosmetic standard you worked to.
