Senior Drupal 11 Front-End Developer / Drupal Theme Specialist

Hybrid Role: 2 days work from client kalyani nagar office.

Objective

Implement a new visual design for an existing Drupal 11 platform, replacing and/or consolidating the current theming approach while preserving compatibility with existing functionality provided by custom Drupal modules.

The consultant will work closely with the internal platform team, including a dedicated technical expert responsible for the custom modules.

Scope of Work

1. Current State Analysis

Review the existing Drupal 11 implementation. Analyze the current theme architecture and dependencies.

Assess the usage of the two active Drupal themes and identify overlaps and technical debt.

Evaluate presentation-layer dependencies introduced by custom modules.

Identify risks, effort estimates, and implementation approach.

1. Theme Architecture Design

Define the target Drupal 11 theme structure.

Recommend whether to

- enhance one of the existing themes,
- consolidate the current themes,
- or create a new custom theme based on Drupal 11 best practices.

Ensure maintainability and future extensibility.
1. Recent Design Implementation

Translate approved UI/UX designs into Drupal 11 themes and templates. Develop and modify Twig templates.

Implement responsive layouts for desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Implement reusable UI components and styling.

Ensure consistency across all page types and content structures.

1. Integration with Custom Functionality

Collaborate with the internal developer responsible for the three custom Drupal modules. Adapt and style custom module outputs to match the new design.

Review and update theme hooks, template overrides,



and preprocess functions where required.

Ensure that theme changes do not impact business functionality.

1. Front-End Optimization & Quality Assurance

Cross-browser testing. Responsive testing.

Accessibility review and remediation.

Performance optimization of front-end assets.

Resolution of visual and UX defects identified during testing.

1. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

Document the implemented theme structure. Document custom templates and overrides.

Provide deployment and maintenance instructions.

Conduct a handover session with the internal team.

Deliverables

Fully implemented Drupal 11 theme.

Support with migration of existing pages and components to the new design.

Updated templates and front-end assets.

Styling and integration support for the three custom modules.

Responsive implementation across supported devices.

Technical documentation.

Knowledge transfer session.

Required Experience

Mandatory

Proven Drupal 10/11 theming experience.

Strong expertise in

- Twig
- HTML5
- CSS3 / SCSS
- JavaScript
- Responsive design
- Drupal Theme Layer
- Layout Builder (if applicable)

(Generally, it is mandatory; in our case it is optional as we have in-house expertise) Experience working with custom Drupal modules. (Generally, it is very important; in our case we have the UI/UX expert available during the implementation phase) Experience implementing designs from Figma or equivalent design tools.

Git-based development workflows.

Preferred

Experience modernizing legacy Drupal themes.

Experience with design systems/component libraries.

Accessibility (WCAG) experience.

Experience with enterprise-scale Drupal platforms.
