The Role:

- Freedom Source is seeking a Senior Electrical Procurement Takeoff Engineer to join the Suffolk Global team. This position plays a critical role in supporting Freedom Source's direct procurement strategy by translating construction documents and design information into accurate, procurement-ready material and equipment requirements for complex commercial construction projects throughout the United States.
- The role will have a primary focus on electrical systems and lighting, using drawings, models, schedules, specifications, and digital tools to identify the equipment and materials required for procurement, validate quantities and locations, and develop detailed Bills of Material (BOMs), equipment schedules, and procurement packages.
- For lighting and other quantity-driven scopes,



the Senior Electrical Procurement Takeoff Engineer will use reflected ceiling plans, lighting plans, fixture schedules, models, and specifications to determine fixture types, quantities, locations, and associated procurement requirements. For major electrical equipment, the role will interpret one-line diagrams, equipment schedules, plans, and specifications to identify equipment quantities, ratings, configurations, and other technical requirements necessary to competitively solicit manufacturers.
- This is an internal-facing technical role that partners closely with Freedom Source Project Managers, Procurement Managers, estimators, design professionals, and regional project teams. The position will also support quality assurance, uphold standards, and advance the use of digital tools, automation, BIM, and AI-enabled technologies to improve procurement accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

- Lead the development of procurement-ready material and equipment requirements for electrical and lighting scopes, using construction drawings, BIM models, schedules, specifications, and other design documentation.
- Develop and validate lighting fixture quantities and schedules, including fixture type, quantity, location, and other procurement-relevant attributes, using reflected ceiling plans, lighting plans, fixture schedules, specifications, and models.
- Interpret electrical one-line diagrams, equipment schedules, plans, and specifications to develop procurement scopes for major electrical equipment, including switchgear, transformers, generators, switchboards, panelboards, ATS/MTS equipment, busway, medium-voltage cable, and related electrical infrastructure.
- Prepare detailed Bills of Material (BOMs), equipment schedules, quantity summaries, and procurement packages that enable Freedom Source to competitively solicit manufacturers and execute direct purchasing.
- Reconcile information across drawings, schedules, specifications, and models to verify that procurement quantities and equipment requirements are complete, coordinated, and technically accurate.
- Utilize digital takeoff, BIM, and construction technology platforms to efficiently identify, quantify, organize, and validate materials and equipment required for procurement.
- Collaborate with Freedom Source Project Managers and Procurement Managers to validate procurement scope, quantities, equipment characteristics, and design intent before packages are issued to manufacturers.
- Identify discrepancies, omissions, or conflicts between drawings, schedules, specifications, and models and coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve issues prior to procurement.
- Support value engineering and sourcing initiatives by evaluating alternate products and manufacturers, identifying opportunities for standardization, and providing technical information needed to compare procurement options.




- Provide technical oversight and quality review for mechanical equipment and architectural finish procurement packages prepared by Suffolk Global team members, ensuring consistency with Freedom Source standards and project requirements.
- Support the development of scalable processes for mechanical equipment and architectural finish quantity extraction as those procurement categories expand.
- Maintain standardized workflows, templates, equipment schedules, BOM formats, and quality-control procedures for electrical and lighting procurement engineering.
- Review and audit procurement packages prepared by other engineers for completeness, accuracy, and consistency before release to Freedom Source procurement teams.
- Continuously improve procurement engineering processes through digital tools, automation, model-based quantity extraction, and AI-enabled technologies that increase accuracy, speed, and repeatability.
- Partner with procurement, estimating, design, and project teams across North America to support early procurement planning, manufacturer engagement, and schedule certainty.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Electrical Engineering strongly preferred.
- 5–8 years of experience in electrical engineering, electrical estimating, lighting/electrical takeoffs, procurement engineering, MEP coordination, preconstruction, or a related commercial construction role.
- Advanced ability to read and interpret electrical construction documents, including one-line diagrams, electrical plans, panel and equipment schedules, reflected ceiling plans, lighting layouts, fixture schedules, and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of commercial lighting systems and electrical distribution equipment, including switchgear, transformers, generators, switchboards, panelboards, ATS/MTS equipment, busway, medium-voltage systems, and related infrastructure.
- Experience developing or validating Bills of Material, fixture schedules, equipment schedules, quantity takeoffs, or procurement packages from construction documents and/or BIM models.
- Experience using digital tools to extract, organize, validate, or manage construction quantities and equipment information.
- Proficiency with platforms such as Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk Construction Cloud, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, or similar BIM, engineering, estimating, and takeoff applications.
- Working knowledge of commercial mechanical systems and architectural finishes sufficient to provide technical oversight and quality review of procurement-support activities in those disciplines.
- Ability to reconcile information across drawings, models, schedules, and specifications and identify discrepancies before procurement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to technical accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to review technical work, establish quality standards, mentor team members, and improve engineering processes.
- Interest in applying automation, AI, BIM, and data-driven workflows to improve the speed, accuracy, and scalability of construction procurement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across global teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
