Job Summary:
The OT Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining the ophthalmic operation theatre, assisting ophthalmic surgeons and nursing staff during surgeries, ensuring proper sterilization, and maintaining patient safety and OT standards.
Key Responsibilities
- OT Preparation
- Prepare the OT before every surgery.
- Check operating microscope, phaco machine, cautery, suction and other OT equipment.
- Ensure required surgical instruments, consumables and medicines are available.
- Maintain proper OT cleanliness and infection-control standards.
- Surgical Assistance
- Assist the ophthalmic surgeon and nursing team during cataract and other eye surgeries.
- Arrange and pass instruments as required during procedures.
- Prepare surgical trays according to the scheduled procedure.
- Assist with patient positioning and shifting safely to and from the OT.
- Sterilization & Infection Control
- Clean, disinfect and sterilize ophthalmic instruments according to hospital protocols.
- Maintain sterilization records and instrument-tracking registers.
- Follow strict aseptic techniques.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of biomedical waste.
- Equipment & Inventory
- Check OT equipment before and after procedures.
- Report equipment malfunction immediately.
- Maintain adequate stock of instruments, surgical consumables and OT supplies.
- Maintain expiry-date checks for medicines and consumables.
- Patient Safety
- Verify patient identity, surgery/procedure and operative eye before surgery.
- Follow OT safety checklist and surgical protocols.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and professional behaviour.
- Assist during emergencies as instructed by the surgeon/nursing team.
- Documentation
- Maintain OT registers and surgery records.
- Record sterilization, cleaning and equipment-check details.
- Maintain daily surgery schedules and procedure-related documentation.
- Coordinate with reception, nursing, pharmacy and billing departments when required.
Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in an ophthalmic OT is preferred.
- Knowledge of cataract/phaco surgery procedures and ophthalmic instruments is an advantage.
- Basic computer knowledge.

Pay: ₹12,144.57 - ₹20,000.00 per month
