Physiotherapy Technician

Department: Physiotherapy / Rehabilitation
Designation: Physiotherapy Technician
Reports To: Physiotherapy In-charge / Assigned Physiotherapist

1. Job Purpose

To support physiotherapy services by preparing treatment areas, assisting qualified physiotherapy professionals, maintaining equipment and supplies, and ensuring a clean, protected, and organized treatment environment.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Patient Assistance

- Assist with patient transfer, positioning, mobility, and preparation for treatment as directed.
- Support patient comfort, dignity, privacy, and safety during physiotherapy sessions.
- Assist patients with mobility aids under the supervision or direction of qualified staff.
- Inform the supervising physiotherapist about patient discomfort, dizziness, pain, or any unexpected change in condition.
- Follow safe patient-handling techniques and use assistance when required.

B. Treatment Support

- Prepare treatment beds, therapy areas, and equipment before sessions.
- Set up prescribed modalities and equipment under appropriate supervision.
- Assist physiotherapists during exercise therapy and rehabilitation sessions as instructed.
- Clean and disinfect equipment between patients according to hospital protocols.
- Ensure treatment areas are ready for the next patient.

C. Equipment and Inventory

- Check equipment for visible damage and report faults immediately.
- Maintain assigned equipment and stock registers.
- Assist in monitoring consumables and reporting shortages.
- Ensure safe storage of accessories and therapy materials.
- Do not operate equipment independently unless trained and authorized.

D. Infection Control and Safety

- Follow hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and infection prevention procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in treatment areas.
- Follow biomedical waste segregation and disposal procedures, where applicable.
- Report spills, hazards, equipment defects,



and safety incidents promptly.
- Follow emergency procedures and seek immediate assistance when needed.

E. Documentation and Professional Conduct

- Complete assigned checklists, cleaning logs, and equipment registers.
- Assist with patient movement and service records as authorized.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and respectful communication.
- Follow duty rosters, departmental instructions, and hospital policies.
- Participate in training and competency assessments.

3. Qualifications

- Physiotherapy technician certificate, diploma, or other relevant qualification as required by the institution and applicable rules.
- Relevant healthcare or rehabilitation experience preferred.
- Training in patient handling, infection control, and equipment safety desirable.

4. Required Competencies

- Patient handling and mobility assistance.
- Basic understanding of physiotherapy equipment.
- Infection prevention and workplace safety.
- Teamwork, communication, and discipline.
- Accurate completion of assigned checklists and registers.

5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Completion of treatment-area preparation and cleaning checklists.
- Compliance with infection control and patient safety procedures.
- Timely reporting of equipment defects and stock shortages.
- Accuracy of assigned registers and checklists.
- Compliance with duty schedules and departmental instructions.

6. Scope and Limitations

The Physiotherapy Technician works within the assigned training, competency, and authorization. The technician must not independently assess patients, diagnose conditions, prescribe or modify treatment plans, or perform restricted clinical procedures. All clinical decisions and treatment modifications must be referred to the appropriately qualified physiotherapist.

7. Accountability

The Physiotherapy Technician is accountable for assigned support duties, patient assistance, equipment safety, treatment-area cleanliness, and accurate completion of delegated records.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
