Company Description: We see ourselves as a bunch of crazy maniacs who refuse to understand "It Can Not Happen". People know us for building the most awesome e-bikes (electric bicycles) but, how we see it is "We believe we are changing the world, one e-bike at a time, and playing a part in bringing India to the Global map for EVs." The company aims to bring across top-quality eBikes which would currently cost way more in the Indian market at an affordable price utilizing its local sourcing and manufacturing capabilities. Let's talk numbers We are currently the market leader in India across the e-bike category and are just on the verge of announcing our series C. Having grown from a team of 5 to 150+ across the globe, from a small garage to offices across 15 countries and clocking in INR 300+ Cr revenue in first three years of operations. We have raised a series B from global investors. We think this is a great start to our exciting journey. We think this is a great start to our exciting journey. Come, join us, help us transform the world, mobility, and have a blast while doing it Think you are the right fit? Feel free to apply
Experience:
3–5 years Department: New Product Development Reports to: Product & Strategy Lead Work Mode: On-site
About the Role
We are developing a new, compact electric mobility product from the ground up. As the Powertrain & Motor Design Engineer, you will own the drive system from the motor through to the final output. You will size the motor, define the gear reduction and design the supporting mechanical hardware. You will validate it through simulation and testing so the product is efficient, quiet, durable and lightweight. This is an early-stage role with real ownership. You will work closely with the founder and have a direct say in how the product takes shape.
Key Responsibilities
• Derive powertrain requirements from product-level targets: load, gradient, target speed, range and operating modes.
• Calculate required motor torque, speed, power and thermal limits across the full duty cycle, including peak and continuous-load cases.
• Select or specify the motor (BLDC or similar). Define Kv, winding, pole/slot configuration and the operating point for peak efficiency.
• Design and size the gear reduction (planetary, spur or belt) for ratio, torque capacity, efficiency, backlash and noise.
• Design the output and mounting interfaces, accounting for loads, contact conditions, wear and durability.
• Create 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings of housings, gear trains, shafts, bearings and brackets, with GD&T; and tolerance stack-ups.
• Run FEA (structural, fatigue, modal) and thermal simulation on critical components.
• Run electromagnetic and system-level simulation: efficiency maps, torque–speed curves, thermal rise and range estimation.
• Work with the electronics and firmware team on controller interface, sensor integration, current limits and regen behaviour.
• Design for manufacturing, assembly and cost, working with suppliers on prototypes and tooling.
• Plan and run bench and field tests (dyno, thermal, noise/vibration, ingress protection, durability) and feed results back into the design.
• Support regulatory and safety compliance for the product category.
• Work directly with the founder to turn product vision into engineering decisions. Required
Qualifications:
• B.
E./B.
Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Automotive Engineering.
• 3–5 years in powertrain, motor or drivetrain design, preferably in e-bikes, e-scooters, EV two-wheelers, micro mobility or small electric drives.
• Hands-on experience working on physical products and delivering projects end to end, from concept through prototype to production release.
• Strong grounding in motor sizing and vehicle dynamics, including road-load, gradeability and acceleration calculations.
• Proficiency in gear design and reduction-ratio selection, with knowledge of gear failure modes, bearing selection, shaft design and fits.
• Hands-on CAD in SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA or Fusion 360, including assemblies, GD&T; and tolerance analysis.
• Simulation
experience:
FEA in ANSYS, Abaqus or SolidWorks Simulation, and motor/system modelling in MATLAB/Simulink, Motor-CAD, ANSYS Maxwell or similar.
• Understanding of BLDC/PMSM motors, FOC control basics, battery–motor–controller interaction and thermal management.
• Ability to read test data and turn it into design changes.
• Preferably currently working, or having worked, in the R&D; department of a motor manufacturing, gear or powertrain company, developing and delivering projects.
• Candidates from BITS, IIT, MIT, VIT and COEP are warmly invited to apply.
• Immediate joiners and candidates serving their notice period will be given first preference. Preferred
Qualifications:
• Experience with compact geared motors, hub motors or mid-drives.
• Knowledge of NVH reduction in small geared motors.
• Familiarity with injection moulding, die-casting, CNC and sheet-metal design for cost-effective manufacture.
• Experience with IP-rated sealing, regen braking and freewheel/clutch mechanisms.
• Exposure to DFMEA, DVP&R; and prototype-to-production handover. Key
