Bengaluru Reporting to: Senior Manager PURPOSE OF ROLE Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs that power our products. The role requires strong expertise in Python-based frameworks, cloud infrastructure, database design, and modern software engineering practices, with a focus on performance, reliability, security, and quality. KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Backend Development & API Design
• Design and develop RESTful APIs using FastAPI (mandatory); experience with Django and Flask is an advantage. 2. System Architecture & Engineering
• Architect scalable backend systems with a focus on performance, reliability, and security.
• Apply domain-driven design and microservices architecture principles.
• Follow Python best practices, including PEP 8, and use scalable design patterns. 3. Database Design & Optimization
• Design, maintain, and optimize relational databases, with PostgreSQL mandatory and MySQL desirable.
• Apply ORM tools such as Django ORM, SQLAlchemy, Sequelize, or Waterline.
• Apply database design principles and performance optimization techniques. 4. Cloud, Containers & CI/CD
• Containerize applications using Docker and manage deployments on Azure services, including Web Apps and Functions.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tools.
• Work effectively with Git and GitHub. 5. Testing & Quality




• Write unit and integration tests using pytest (mandatory); familiarity with Locust and Hypothesis is an advantage.
• Conduct code reviews and maintain high standards of code quality.
• Identify potential issues proactively and implement preventive solutions. 6. Collaboration & Technical Leadership
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and DevOps teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and guide the team in making sound technical decisions.
• Take ownership of deliverables and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Work effectively in distributed and cloud-based environments.
• Demonstrate an owner's mindset in problem-solving and delivery. 7. Technical Environment
• Core technologies: Python, FastAPI, RESTful APIs, PostgreSQL, and ORM tools.
• Development and deployment: Docker, Git/GitHub, CI/CD, Azure Web Apps, and Azure Functions.
• Testing: pytest, with Locust and Hypothesis as additional tools. BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT The Senior Backend Engineer works with cross-functional engineering and product teams to build and maintain secure, reliable, and scalable backend services. • 6+ years of backend development experience with Python.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in distributed or cloud-based environments.
• Strong expertise in FastAPI and RESTful API design (mandatory); Django and Flask are good to have.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL; MySQL experience is desirable.
• Experience with ORM tools, relational database design, and performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Git, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines. IT Skills
• Python and FastAPI (mandatory).
• RESTful API design (mandatory).
• PostgreSQL (mandatory); MySQL and Django/Flask (valuable to have).
