Role Overview
AerX Labs is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to oversee end-to-end quality across supplier-manufactured components, incoming materials, in-house assembly, testing and final product acceptance.
The role will initially focus on industrial equipment and integrated cart/trailer systems involving fabricated chassis, sheet-metal enclosures, mechanical assemblies, electrical systems, piping, hoses and other bought-out components.
The candidate will be responsible for establishing and implementing robust quality processes, ensuring supplier compliance with engineering specifications and maintaining consistent product quality through final inspection and dispatch.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA)
- Evaluate, qualify and periodically audit suppliers and subcontractors.
- Ensure supplier compliance with approved drawings, specifications, materials and manufacturing processes.
- Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) for newly developed components and assemblies.
- Monitor supplier quality performance and coordinate corrective actions.
- Review material certificates, welding records, dimensional inspection reports and coating specifications.
- Conduct supplier-site inspections at critical manufacturing stages.
2. Incoming Quality Control (IQC)
- Establish incoming inspection procedures and acceptance criteria.
- Inspect fabricated structures, sheet-metal parts, machined components and bought-out items.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, surface finishes and workmanship.
- Maintain inspection records and ensure traceability.
- Identify, segregate and document nonconforming materials.
3. In-Process and Final Product Quality
- Define and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for assembly and integration.
- Monitor quality during mechanical assembly, electrical integration and functional testing.
- Verify critical interfaces, mounting arrangements, piping, wiring and installation workmanship.
- Coordinate final inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Ensure product compliance with customer specifications before dispatch.
4. Quality Management System (QMS)
- Develop and maintain quality procedures, inspection checklists and acceptance documentation.
- Implement ISO 9001-aligned quality management practices.
- Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Maintain calibration records for inspection and measuring equipment.
- Support customer inspections, quality audits and product acceptance activities.
- Drive continuous improvement and reduction of supplier and manufacturing defects.
Required Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T; and dimensional tolerances.
- Experience with sheet-metal fabrication, welding, machining, structural assemblies and surface treatments.
- Familiarity with welding inspection, coating inspection and material certification.
- Hands-on knowledge of inspection instruments and measurement techniques.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, FAI, NCR, CAPA, 8D and 5 Why analysis.
- Experience preparing inspection reports, quality plans, checklists and FAT documentation.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with Engineering, Procurement, Production and external suppliers.
Preferred Experience
- Industrial machinery, fabricated equipment, automotive, commercial vehicles, trailers, aerospace ground-support equipment or similar manufacturing industries.
- Supplier development and quality management of outsourced fabrication vendors.
- Experience managing quality across low-volume, high-value engineered products.
- ISO 9001 Internal Auditor certification.
- Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, welding standards and NDT processes.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Supplier defect and rejection rates.
- First-pass acceptance of incoming components.
- Reduction in assembly rework and nonconformances.
- Timely closure of NCRs and corrective actions.
- First-pass success rate during FAT.
- Completeness of inspection and product quality records.
- Reduction in customer complaints and post-delivery quality issues.
Reporting and Authority
The position will report to the Head of Operations / CEO, with independent authority over quality acceptance.
The Quality Assurance Manager will have the authority to reject nonconforming materials, hold production activities and prevent dispatch of products that do not meet approved quality requirements.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a hands-on manufacturing quality skilled, comfortable working on the shop floor, visiting suppliers, interpreting engineering drawings and resolving practical manufacturing quality issues.
The ideal candidate should be capable of independently establishing and managing the quality function in a growing engineering and manufacturing organization, rather than focusing solely on documentation or audits.
