Purpose/Objective

Head of Section - Health & Safety is responsible for implementing and managing health and safety programs aimed at ensuring a protected workplace for employees and contractors.

The role involves promoting safety awareness, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and collaborating with various departments to mitigate risks, prevent incidents, and improve overall safety performance at the port.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Health & Safety Program Implementation: Implement safety programs covering chemical safety, hazardous materials management, health, hygiene, and incident prevention for employees and contractors.

Risk Management: Collaborate with operations, engineering, and other departments to develop risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Regularly update emergency response and risk management plans.

Training & Safety Awareness: Plan and deliver continuous health and safety awareness programs.

Organize monthly contractor safety meetings and revise training content to keep it relevant and effective.

Workplace Safety Monitoring: Identify and monitor potental workplace hazards to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses, especially during critical tasks like confined space entry, work at height, and heavy lifting.

Oversee the functioning of port medical facilities and safety services, ensuring the effectiveness of health and safety initiatives.

Incident Investigation & Corrective Action: Assist in investigating incidents, analyze them with department heads, and ensure corrective/preventive actions are taken.





Share lessons learned from incidents and update risk assessments and SOPs accordingly.

Emergency Response Preparedeness: Actively participate in emergency response planning and execution, ensuring team coordination and preparedness for emergencies.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations for ongoing operations and expansion projects, staying updated on statutory requirements.

Digital Mindset: Keep up with digital and AI advancements to enhance business and maintain competitiveness.

Team Development: Promote a respectful and safe workplace, lead collaborative and productive teams, and mentor for growth and success.

Key Stakeholders - Internal: Environmental Officers and Teams, Operations and Facility Teams, EHS Department Key Stakeholders - External: Environmental Regulatory Agencies, Waste Management Vendors, Environmental Consultants, NGOs and Advocacy Groups

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualification: B.

Sc.

(Chemistry/Physic) / Diploma Engg.

/B.

Tech (Desirable – Diploma in safety), preferably a NEBOSH Work Experience: Minimum 10 - 15 years of experience in Health and Safety in Manufacturing industry / port industry
