About the Water Lab, Plaksha University The Water Lab at Plaksha University works on water and wastewater challenges through research, modelling and decision-support tools. Its current work includes the project “Urban Stream Management”, supported by the Binny Bansal Institute for Inventing Future Grant, which focuses on decentralized wastewater treatment of urban stream discharges in Punjab.
About Role:
The Water Lab invites applications for a Research Fellow to support modelling and decision-support work for decentralized wastewater treatment of urban stream discharges in Punjab. The role is part of the project “Urban Stream Management”.
Key Responsibilities:
Wastewater data analysis: Collect, clean and analyze data on wastewater discharge in urban streams and on the performance of existing treatment systems, identifying discharge patterns, pollution loads and priority locations for intervention.
Water quality analysis: Analyze the water quality of selected samples to ground-truth the data and models, and interpret results against relevant standards and discharge norms.
Decentralized treatment strategy mapping: Map context-specific decentralized wastewater treatment strategies for urban stream discharges in Punjab,
assessing the suitability of options based on local conditions, discharge characteristics and site constraints.
Maps, datasets and documentation: Prepare spatial maps, well-organized datasets, periodic progress reports and technical documentation that support the project's decision-support work and communicate findings to the team and project stakeholders.
AI-based predictive management: Support the development and testing of AI-based predictive management approaches for existing sewage treatment plants, including preparing data, running models and helping validate their outputs.
Field visits and sampling: Support field visits for sample collection, site observation and validation, and maintain accurate field records and sample logs.
Eligibility:
- Master’s degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science, Water Resources Engineering or other related fields.
- Interest or experience in wastewater treatment, water quality, STPs or urban water systems.
- Fieldwork experience will be an advantage.
