Quality Sheet Metal The Quality Sheet Metal Planner will oversee and manage the planning and quality assurance processes for sheet metal products throughout the production cycle. This role ensures that all sheet metal components and assemblies meet the required specifications, regulatory standards, and customer expectations, while coordinating with production teams to facilitate smooth workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality Planning and Strategy:
- Develop and implement quality plans for sheet metal products, ensuring all materials and components meet required specifications before entering production.
- Collaborate with engineering, design, and production teams to establish quality benchmarks and ensure these standards are consistently met throughout the manufacturing process.
- Define inspection and testing criteria for sheet metal components, including measurements, tolerances, finish, and other specifications.
- Production Coordination and Scheduling:
- Coordinate with the production planning team to schedule quality control checks at critical stages of the sheet metal manufacturing process, ensuring quality is maintained from raw materials to finished products.
- Work closely with the production department to ensure that quality checks do not interfere with production schedules and that any quality issues are addressed in a timely manner.
- Ensure that production schedules align with quality assurance processes, including any downtime for testing or inspections.
- Quality Control Inspections and Testing:
- Plan and execute inspections at various stages of the sheet metal fabrication process, including after laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, and before powder coating.
- Oversee the measurement and testing of critical parameters (e.g., dimensions, bend angles, flatness, etc.)
to ensure they meet customer specifications.
- Review test reports and inspection findings, ensuring that any deviations from quality standards are properly documented and corrective actions are implemented.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all quality control activities, inspections, testing results, and corrective actions taken.
- Prepare detailed reports on quality performance, including trends, defect rates, and improvements, for management and stakeholders.
- Ensure that all quality documents are compliant with company standards and are available for internal or external audits.
- Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving:
- Investigate root causes of quality issues related to sheet metal production and collaborate with cross-functional teams to find permanent solutions.
- Develop corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for recurring quality issues, ensuring that preventive measures are implemented to avoid future defects.
- Work closely with engineers, production, and maintenance teams to address issues affecting product quality, such as machine calibration, tooling wear, or material inconsistencies.
- Supplier Quality Management:
- Ensure that materials purchased from suppliers meet required specifications and quality standards for sheet metal fabrication.
- Evaluate and select suppliers based on their ability to deliver quality materials that meet production requirements.
- Conduct regular audits of supplier quality performance and work with suppliers to resolve any quality-related issues.
- Compliance and Industry Standards:
- Ensure that sheet metal products comply with industry standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM, or other relevant certifications) as well as specific customer requirements.
- Stay updated on changes to regulations, standards, and best practices in sheet metal manufacturing and ensure the company's processes are compliant.
- Prepare for and participate in customer or regulatory audits, ensuring quality systems and records are in place.
- Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing:
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize the quality of sheet metal products and processes.
- Implement lean manufacturing techniques to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance the overall quality of production.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements that can reduce defects and increase throughput while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Training and Development:
- Train production and quality control teams on best practices for quality assurance in sheet metal manufacturing, including measurement techniques and inspection methods.
- Promote a culture of quality across all departments, emphasizing the importance of high-quality standards and continuous improvement.
- Customer Feedback and Issue Resolution:
- Collect and review customer feedback related to product quality, ensuring that any issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Collaborate with the customer service and production teams to resolve quality-related complaints and ensure corrective actions are implemented in future production runs.
