Product Engineer - BMS
Key Responsibilities:
1. BMS Design and Development:
- Design and develop Battery Management System (BMS) hardware and software, ensuring compatibility with different battery chemistries (e.g., Li-ion, LiFePO4, etc.).
- Work closely with the hardware engineering team to design and integrate sensors for battery state monitoring (voltage, current, temperature, etc.).
- Develop algorithms for state-of-charge (SOC), state-of-health (SOH), and state-of-function (SOF) estimation.
- Software Development:
- Develop and implement embedded software for BMS functions like charging, balancing, fault detection, and thermal management.
- Program microcontrollers, FPGAs, or other embedded platforms used in BMS.
- Implement communication protocols such as CAN, I2C, SPI, and Modbus for data exchange between the BMS and other vehicle or system components.
- System Integration:
- Integrate BMS with vehicle control systems, energy storage systems, or other hardware.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of BMS into the final product.
- Testing and Validation:
- Conduct tests on the BMS hardware and software to validate performance, safety, and reliability under various operating conditions.
- Develop test plans and procedures for evaluating BMS performance and ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 26262 for automotive safety).
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified during the testing phase.
- Battery Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that the BMS design adheres to industry safety standards, such as IEC 62133, UL 2054, or UN 38.3 for battery safety.
- Implement over-voltage, over-current, and thermal protection mechanisms to protect the battery and ensure secure operation.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations for battery use and disposal.
- Battery Performance Optimization:
- Develop strategies for enhancing battery life and performance through techniques such as cell balancing and power management.
- Optimize charging algorithms for faster, safer, and more efficient charging.
- Collaboration and Cross-Functional Work:
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, software developers, and systems engineers to develop and optimize the BMS.
- Interface with suppliers and vendors for sourcing components or third-party BMS software or hardware.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Keep up to date with emerging BMS technologies, standards, and best practices.
- Propose and implement improvements to existing systems, ensuring that the BMS stays competitive and meets the latest requirements.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation for BMS design, development processes, test results, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide regular updates and reports to management and stakeholders regarding progress, challenges, and solutions.
