About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Kernel Development Engineer to design, develop, debug, and optimize Linux kernel components for embedded platforms and high-performance computing systems. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Linux kernel internals, device drivers, operating system concepts, and low-level system programming.
The candidate will work closely with hardware, firmware, BSP, and platform engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance software solutions for next-generation computing platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, customize, and maintain Linux kernel components for embedded and computing platforms.
- Develop, integrate, and debug Linux device drivers for hardware peripherals and interfaces.
- Work on kernel configuration, compilation, boot processes, and system initialization.
- Perform kernel debugging, crash analysis, memory leak detection, and performance optimization.
- Analyze kernel logs, kernel panics, deadlocks, race conditions, and system-level issues.
- Work on Board Support Packages (BSP), device trees, bootloaders, and hardware-software integration.
- Optimize system performance, memory utilization, interrupt handling, and scheduling.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, validation, and application software teams to resolve platform issues.
- Contribute to kernel upgrades, patch management, code reviews, and upstream Linux community practices.
- Develop automated test cases and support system validation, integration, and product releases.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 7-12yrs Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong programming skills in C and proficiency in low-level system programming.
- Hands-on experience with Linux kernel development and debugging.
- Good understanding of Linux kernel architecture, process management, memory management, scheduling, synchronization, and interrupt handling.
- Experience developing or debugging Linux device drivers.
- Robust understanding of operating system fundamentals, pointers, data structures, and concurrency.
- Experience with tools such as GDB, KGDB, ftrace, perf, crash, and kernel logs.
- Familiarity with Git, Makefiles, cross-compilation, and Linux build systems.
- Good problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with ARM or ARM64 architecture and embedded Linux platforms.
- Knowledge of bootloaders such as U-Boot and device tree configuration.
- Experience with Yocto Project, Buildroot, or custom Linux distributions.
