Key Responsibilities
- Review the existing Cassandra data model and recommend improvements for performance, scalability, and availability.
- Design multi-region Cassandra architecture, including replication strategies, consistency levels, failover mechanisms, and capacity planning.
- Define best practices for Java data access using the DataStax Java Driver, including configuration, load balancing, retries, and query patterns.
- Identify and resolve Cassandra performance issues involving hot partitions, large partitions, tombstones, and consistency anomalies.
- Design and guide zero-downtime, no-data-loss migration strategies from relational databases to Cassandra.
- Implement migration approaches such as Change Data Capture (CDC), dual writes, and shadow reads.
- Guide the development of customer-facing migration and data verification tools.
- Define performance testing strategies and benchmarks across multiple regions.
- Establish operational best practices for compaction, repair,
monitoring, backup, and recovery.
- Document architecture decisions and mentor the engineering team through design and code reviews.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands-on production experience with Apache Cassandra.
- Robust expertise in Cassandra architecture, data modeling, and performance tuning at scale.
- Proven experience designing multi-region Cassandra deployments for high availability and low latency.
- Experience leading RDBMS-to-Cassandra migrations with zero downtime and no data loss.
- Experience integrating Cassandra into applications originally designed for relational databases.
- Deep knowledge of the DataStax Java Driver.
- Ability to work independently, ramp up quickly, and provide technical guidance to engineering teams.
