Introduction to the Team : The Expedia Group Cars team owns the end-to-end car rental shopping and booking journey across web and mobile platforms. We design and operate high-scale, distributed systems that power search, pricing, availability, comparison, and booking for millions of travelers globally.

Leveraging technologies such as Java, Kotlin, Spring, React, GraphQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, and Redis, we build resilient, high-throughput services that operate at global scale. Our focus is on scalable architecture, clean API design, operational excellence, and continuous evolution of the Cars platform to support business growth and partner integrations.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer (SSDE), you will have significant ownership and technical influence within this ecosystem. You will lead complex, high-impact initiatives, drive architectural decisions across services,



and translate ambiguous business problems into scalable technical solutions. Beyond delivery, you are expected to elevate engineering standards, mentor other engineers, improve system reliability and performance, and contribute to long-term technical strategy.

This role is ideal for a backend-leaning full-stack engineer who thrives in distributed systems, designs robust APIs and data models, and is comfortable contributing to frontend experiences when needed — while consistently driving operational rigor and measurable business impact.

In this role, you will :

- Lead end-to-end delivery of features and services, from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization in production environments.

- Improve technical quality and operational excellence by driving code quality standards, reducing incidents, enhancing observability, and optimizing performance and reliability.

- Mentor and guide other engineers, sharing best practices in software engineering, testing, and architecture, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.

- Collaborate with product, design, data, and other engineering teams to translate business and customer problems into scalable technical solutions that can be reused across domains. Minimum Qualifications :





- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.

- 8+ years of relevant professional experience.

- Proven experience owning end-to-end delivery for services or components, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support within a multi-service or domain environment.

- Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language and core software engineering practices, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, testing, and version control. Preferred Qualifications :

- Demonstrated track record driving technical direction for services or domains, making data-informed tradeoffs on scalability, reliability, performance, and cost.

- Strong focus on operational excellence, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and continuous improvement of production systems and developer workflows.- Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives or migrations, influencing engineering best practices across a domain, and mentoring others to grow their technical depth and delivery capability, including guiding teams on effective and responsible use of AI-assisted development and testing tools
