Role Summary : The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the complete electrical and mechanical maintenance of snack extrusion and packaging machinery to ensure efficient, safe, and uninterrupted production. The role requires strong hands-on technical expertise in extrusion systems, preventive maintenance planning, breakdown management, continuous improvement, and cross-functional coordination within a food manufacturing workplace.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Planning & Execution

Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules for snack processing equipment such as extruders, mixers, feeders, dryers/roasters, fryers (if applicable), seasoning systems, conveyors, and packaging machines.

Perform routine inspections and condition monitoring to ensure optimal equipment performance.

Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues and execute quick, effective repairs to minimize downtime.

Maintain maintenance logs, checklists, and equipment history records.

Process & Equipment Optimization

Monitor machine performance indicators such as throughput, downtime, energy usage, and product consistency.

Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce wastage, and increase equipment reliability.

Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to ensure machine calibration and process consistency.

Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.

Safety, Food Compliance & Hygiene

Ensure strict adherence to food safety standards, GMP, hygiene protocols, and workplace safety guidelines.

Maintain equipment in compliance with statutory regulations and internal quality standards.

Support internal and external audits related to safety, maintenance, and food processing operations.

Spare Parts & Asset Management

Coordinate with OEMs and service providers for maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical upgrades.

Manage spare parts inventory, critical consumables, and maintenance documentation.

Support procurement activities including technical evaluation of machinery and spare parts.

Production Coordination & Team Support

Work closely with Production Supervisors/Managers to achieve daily and shift production targets.

Train operators and technicians on machine handling, preventive care, and safe operating practices.

Participate in TPM initiatives, Kaizen activities, and continuous improvement projects.

Budget & Resource Management

Assist in monitoring maintenance budgets and optimizing maintenance-related costs.

Ensure effective utilization of manpower and maintenance resources.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering or related discipline.

5-8+ years of experience in maintenance of snack processing, extrusion, or food manufacturing equipment.

Hands-on experience with extruders, dryers, seasoning systems, and automated packaging lines preferred.

Knowledge of TPM, Lean maintenance, and preventive maintenance systems.

Understanding of food safety standards, GMP, and hygiene requirements in snack manufacturing.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

Good documentation and reporting skills.

Ability to lead technicians and coordinate effectively with production teams.
