Atoa is a UK payment platform for Pay by Bank and card payments. Our website are how most merchants first find us and sign up, and we are hiring a Junior WordPress Developer to own it.

You will be the go-to technical owner of the WordPress site. They run on a custom theme built on the Awesome Enterprise (aw2) framework with ACF Pro blocks, hosted on Nginx. You will work closely with our SEO and content lead and our designer, with real ownership of the code, the release process and the results.

What you will do

- Own the theme and framework. Maintain and extend our aw2-based theme (Awesome Core templates, UI Blocks and ACF blocks), and make it more robust over time.

- Build new pages. Turn Figma designs into fast, responsive, pixel-accurate pages, and take them safely from staging to production.

- To manage and create new directories with Polylang Pro, including redirects, translations and per-country content.

- Keep the sites quick and visible. Core Web Vitals, structured data and technical SEO fixes.

- Look after forms, tracking and integrations. Demo forms, Google Tag Manager and GA4, cookie consent, and widgets such as Trustpilot and live chat.

- Keep everything healthy and secure. Plan updates, backups, access and caching, and test every release.

Must-have skills and experience
- 3+ years building and maintaining production WordPress sites, including custom themes and plugins.

- Strong PHP, plus solid JavaScript (vanilla and jQuery), HTML and CSS (Flexbox, Grid, responsive layouts).

- Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) Pro: custom Gutenberg blocks, field groups, repeaters and JSON sync.





- Comfort reading and changing a framework. You learn an unfamiliar templating language (AW2 shortcodes) quickly from the code itself.

- WordPress REST API: application passwords, nonces, scripted bulk changes with backups and dry runs.

- Multilingual WordPress, ideally Polylang Pro: language setup, translations, per-language menus, hreflang.

- Technical SEO with Yoast and Rank Math: titles, canonicals, redirects, sitemaps, JSON-LD schema.

- Performance on Nginx-hosted WordPress: page caching and purging, image optimisation, Core Web Vitals.

- Figma-to-code accuracy, with an eye for spacing, type and breakpoints.

- Safe release habits: staging first, backups before changes, testing after, clear notes on what changed.

- Clear written English. You will explain changes to non-developers in marketing and leadership.

Tech stack and plugins you will own

Awesome Enterprise (aw2). Experience with any shortcode or template-driven framework (Twig, Blade, Timber) helps.

Nice to have

- Familiarity with Awesome Enterprise, the open-source framework behind our theme. The code is on GitHub and the docs are public, so it is worth a look before your interview.
- Large site migrations: domain moves, 301 maps, Google Search Console Change of Address.
- Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) testing and fixes.
- Git-based theme deployment and moving database-stored code into version control.
- Fintech or other regulated-industry websites, where copy and legal links must be exact.
- Headless browser testing (Playwright) for visual checks across breakpoints.
