Job Description

Design Engineer - Substation (Civil & Structural)

Reports To: Design Lead - Civil

Preferred Industry Experience:
Power Transmission & Distribution, Substation Switchyards, Power Plants, Cement Plants, Industrial Infrastructure, Construction, and Engineering Design.

Job Purpose

The Design Engineer (Civil & Structural) shall be responsible for the analysis, design, and engineering of civil and structural works for Substation projects within the PT&D; business. The role involves supporting both domestic and international projects by delivering high-quality engineering solutions, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring timely project execution within budget.

The incumbent will work closely with Draughtspersons and other engineering disciplines to develop design documents, drawings, and calculations while maintaining compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements.





Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design

- Perform analysis and design of civil and structural systems for Substation and Switchyard projects.
- Prepare design calculations, design reports, and technical documents.
- Develop and review Design Basis Reports (DBR) for client approval.
- Optimize structural designs to achieve cost-effective solutions while meeting project requirements and applicable standards.
- Review Soil Investigation Reports (SIR), project specifications, client clarifications, and contract amendments.

Drawing Review & Deliverables

- Prepare mark-ups and engineering inputs for drafting activities.
- Review and approve detailed engineering drawings prepared by Draughtspersons.
- Ensure timely submission of structural drawings and design documents for client approval.
- Maintain engineering quality and compliance with project requirements.

Project Coordination

- Coordinate with Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, and other disciplines for obtaining engineering inputs.
- Liaise with site teams to resolve construction-related design queries and provide technical clarifications.
- Interact with clients regarding drawing approvals, technical discussions, and design clarifications.
- Support domestic and international project teams in meeting engineering deliverables.

Documentation & Control

- Prepare and maintain Document Control Index (DCI).
- Ensure proper documentation and version control of engineering deliverables.
- Prepare and verify Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and material quantities based on project requirements and historical data.

Tendering & Bid Support

- Prepare pre-bid technical queries and engineering inputs during proposal stages.
- Review tender documents, amendments, client clarifications, and technical specifications.
- Support quantity estimation and optimization during bidding and project execution phases.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification: B.Tech in Civil Engineering / M.Tech in Civil or Structural Engineering
Experience: 4-7 Years

Technical Competencies





The Design Engineer shall be capable of performing the analysis & design, drawings of structural & civil elements covering GIS substation / control room buildings, transformer foundations, outdoor equipment foundations, guard house, staff quarters, grading, roads and drainage, outdoor steel structures and miscellaneous works related to the substations and cabling works.

Design Engineer - Civil shall be able to review Vendor engineering documents with respect to Civil & Structural design.

- Knowledge of switchyard gantry towers, equipment supporting structures & foundations.
- Able to review fabrication / detailed drawings for steel supporting structures.
- Familiarity with domestic & international design codes and standards.
- Proficient in:
