As Head of Legal – Projects | Project Finance | Land, you will lead the legal strategy that underpins our growing renewable energy portfolio across India. Your expertise will secure land rights, enable project financing, and safeguard ENGIE's interests from development through operation. This is a role where legal excellence meets real-world climate impact.
What You'll Do
- Lead the legal function for land securisation, project development, construction, operation and financing across ENGIE India's renewable energy portfolio.
- Manage, mentor and coordinate the Projects, Project Finance and Land legal team, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
- Oversee drafting, review, negotiation and execution of land documents, project agreements (PPAs, EPC/O&M; contracts, shareholder agreements) and financing documents (loan agreements, security packages, inter-creditor arrangements).
- Direct legal due diligence, regulatory reviews and compliance audits for new and ongoing projects, ensuring bankability and risk mitigation.
- Support investment approvals through legal memoranda, risk assessments and active participation in internal investment committees.
- Formulate dispute-avoidance strategies and manage arbitration, litigation and regulatory proceedings when required.
- Monitor regulatory trends in India's power sector and promote best practices in contracting, compliance, digital legal tools and knowledge management.
What You Bring
- LL.B. from a recognized institution; LL.M. or specialization in project finance, corporate law or infrastructure law preferred.
- 10+ years of post-qualification experience, ideally gained in a large law firm or major corporate legal practice.
- Extensive exposure to large-scale renewable energy, infrastructure or power sector transactions in India.
- Proven track record leading a legal team and managing complex negotiations with lenders, utilities, regulators and JV partners.
- Strong contract drafting, interpretation and negotiation skills with superior written and verbal communication in English.
- Strategic leadership mindset with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage multiple transactions under pressure.
- AI literacy and demonstrated capacity to leverage digital legal tools for efficiency and quality.
Location
