As a global organisation, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) operates in over 150 countries and territories and honours and cares for the men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the First and Second World Wars, ensuring they will never be forgotten. Funded by six Member Governments, our work began with building, and now maintaining, cemeteries at 23,000 locations around the world.

Today, over a century later, our staff, supporters and volunteers continue this important mission by preserving our unique cultural, horticultural and architectural heritage and ensuring the stories of those who served are remembered.
We are excited to be recruiting a Gardener to join our team at Delhi War Cemetery.

In this role, you will support the Head Gardener and wider horticultural team in maintaining the cemetery grounds to the high standards expected by the Commission. You will undertake a variety of horticultural, grounds maintenance and caretaking activities, helping to preserve the dignity, beauty and heritage of the cemetery while ensuring a respectful environment for visitors.

Key Responsibilities

As a Gardener, you will:

- Carry out horticultural maintenance activities including mowing, edging, weeding, pruning, planting and general grounds upkeep.
- Assist with cemetery renovation and landscaping activities in accordance with Commission standards and horticultural best practices.
- Maintain horticultural equipment and machinery, including basic servicing, cleaning and minor repairs.




Monitor cemetery grounds and report any defects, environmental concerns or maintenance issues to management.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and promote safe working practices at all times.
- Support the Head Gardener and wider team in delivering high-quality horticultural services across the cemetery.
- Assist with the care and presentation of memorials, gardens and landscaped areas to ensure they remain welcoming and well maintained.
- Represent the Commission professionally when interacting with visitors, contractors and members of the public.
- Stand in for the Head Gardener when required, assisting with the coordination of resources and daily activities.

You Will Be Able to Demonstrate

- Literacy in your first language and the willingness to learn and apply the Commission's horticultural practices and standards.
- Previous gardening, grounds maintenance or horticultural experience.
- Strong practical and manual skills with a proactive approach to work.
- Effective communication and listening skills.
- Valuable organisational and time management abilities.
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills within established procedures.
- A strong sense of service delivery and personal accountability.
