Job Description: React Native Mobile App Developer (Expo)

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled React Native Mobile App Developer with strong expertise in the Expo ecosystem to design, develop, and maintain high-performance cross-platform mobile applications for iOS and Android.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React principles, along with hands-on experience using up-to-date Expo tools such as Expo SDK, Expo Router, and EAS (Expo Application Services). The role involves building scalable, accessible, secure, and reusable mobile application experiences while ensuring alignment with the Tesco Design System.

You will collaborate closely with engineering managers, product managers, UI/UX designers, and backend developers to translate business requirements and designs into seamless mobile experiences.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native and the Expo framework.
- Build reusable, scalable, and maintainable components following established coding standards and best practices.
- Leverage Expo SDK, Expo Router, and EAS workflows to streamline development, builds, deployments, and application updates.
- Develop responsive and intuitive user interfaces aligned with the Tesco Design System and UI/UX specifications.
- Optimize application performance, responsiveness, and scalability across iOS and Android platforms.
- Apply best practices for application accessibility, security, and reliability.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues across mobile and web environments, where applicable.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, estimate development efforts, and deliver quality solutions.
- Stay up to date with the latest React Native,



Expo, JavaScript, and TypeScript developments.

Required Technical Skills

- Strong hands-on experience developing cross-platform mobile applications using React Native and Expo.
- Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, including modern ES6+ features and concepts.
- Strong understanding of React principles, component lifecycle, hooks, Context API, and state management.
- Hands-on experience with recent Expo SDK versions, Expo Router (file-based routing), and EAS workflows.
- Understanding of React Native architecture, including the JavaScript Interface (JSI) and the native-to-JavaScript interaction model.
- Experience building reusable UI components and working with component libraries or design systems.
- Understanding of mobile application performance optimization, debugging, accessibility, and security best practices.
- Experience developing and maintaining applications for both iOS and Android from a shared codebase.
- Familiarity with application builds, release processes, and deployment workflows using Expo tools.

Good to Have

- Experience implementing or integrating enterprise design systems, preferably the Tesco Design System.
- Familiarity with native iOS and Android concepts and platform-specific integrations.
- Experience with automated testing, debugging tools, and mobile application quality practices.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and mobile application release automation.
- Experience collaborating with backend teams on API integration and application data flows.
