Role Overview

Our client is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to enhance and refi ne the mechanical design of our products, working with senior engineers to make them more robust, reliable and efficient to manufacture.

You will develop design improvements in SolidWorks using insights from customer sites, production, testing and manufacturing, and release them with complete 2D drawings and GD&T.; You will apply DFM/DFA principles across sheet metal, machined metal, plastic, die-cast and 3D-printed parts.

Key Responsibilities

Design enhancement
● Develop design improvements that enhance the reliability, durability, serviceability and ease of installation of our products
● Model/update parts and assemblies in SolidWorks, and run design checks such as interference, fi tment and tolerance studies

●Validate design changes through prototypes, fi tment, functional and enclosure/IP testing

Field-driven design
● Study how products perform at customer sites using customer feedback, returned units and fi eld data
● Translate fi eld learnings into design refi nements, working closely with senior design engineers & production team
● Evaluate alternate materials, components and fi nishes for outdoor and rugged conditions

Design for manufacturing and assembly




● Apply DFM/DFA principles to sheet metal, machined metal, injection-molded plastic, die-cast and 3D-printed parts
● Optimize part designs to reduce cost, simplify assembly and consolidate components
● Incorporate inputs from production team, assembly technicians, manufacturing partners and vendors into design revisions
● Review samples and fi rst-article parts against design intent

Engineering drawings and design release
● Create and update 2D manufacturing drawings with dimensions, tolerances, fi ts and GD&T; for design release
● Perform tolerance stack-up analysis for critical interfaces, with guidance from senior engineers
● Prepare engineering change documentation (ECR/ECO) for design revisions
● Maintain BOMs, part specifications, assembly instructions and revision records as per the team's version-control process

Collaboration
● Work with industrial design, electronics & fi rmware teams to integrate mechanical designs with PCBs, sensor modules and connectors
● Work with production, quality and service teams to bring test and fi eld insights into the design
● Coordinate with vendors for prototype and revised parts

Required Skills & Expertise
● 1.5-2.5 years of experience in mechanical product design

● Hands-on proficiency in SolidWorks for part modeling, assemblies and 2D drawings
● Positive command of engineering drawings, tolerances, fi ts and GD&T.;
● Working knowledge of tolerance stack-up analysis
● DFM/DFA knowledge of sheet metal, machining, injection molding, die casting and 3D printing




● Understanding of material selection for metals and plastics, surface fi nishes, fasteners and gaskets
● Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods such as 5 Why, fi shbone (Ishikawa) and 8D
● Exposure to engineering change management, BOMs and revision control

Preferred Qualifi cations
● Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
● Experience improving the design of products already in the market
● Exposure to rugged, outdoor or IP-rated product design
● Experience with IoT, environmental monitoring or industrial equipment
