We're seeking an experienced Director of Engineering, Database Engineering to lead the strategy, standards, and delivery of our database engineering capability across a diverse portfolio of products.As the leader of Database Engineering, you will define and drive the vision for database architecture, performance, resilience, and reliability across the organization. Leading a team of highly skilled engineers, you'll create a scalable operating model that enables product teams to deliver with confidence while ensuring consistency, security, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the Database Engineering strategy across the business.
- Build, lead, and develop high-performing database engineering teams.
- Establish organization-wide standards for database architecture, performance, reliability, and security.
- Partner with Product, Platform, Infrastructure, and Service Management leaders to deliver critical initiatives.
- Drive modernization, automation, and cloud optimization across the database estate.
- Own hiring, talent development, succession planning, and team performance.
- Manage delivery priorities,
capacity planning, roadmaps, and stakeholder expectations.
- Champion AI-assisted engineering practices and ensure consistent adoption across teams.
- Track delivery, quality, and operational metrics to continuously improve outcomes.
Skills and Experience
- Deep expertise in SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL at enterprise scale.
- Proven experience leading a database or data infrastructure function.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms, database resilience, disaster recovery, and security.
- Experience establishing technical standards and influencing multiple engineering teams.
- Demonstrated success building, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
- Excellent stakeholder management, strategic planning, and leadership skills.
