Senior Fiber Technician . Telecom (Detailed Line-Wise Responsibilities)

Perform optical fiber splicing for OSP and ISP networks with high precision to ensure minimum splice loss.

Terminate fibers on LIU, FDMS, ODF, patch panels, splice closures and joint enclosures as per telecom standards.

Operate OTDR, Power Meter, OLS, VFL and interpret test results to identify fault point, signal drop, or attenuation.

Troubleshoot all fiber issues including fiber cuts, weak signal, attenuation, connector problems, macro/micro bends, and restore services within SLA.

Maintain fiber integrity by ensuring correct fiber sequencing, clean splicing, proper bend radius, and dust-free connector management.

.. Loss Reduction & Fiber Degradation Control

Monitor splice loss, connector loss and overall link loss regularly to maintain optimal link performance.

Identify and rectify fiber degradation caused by aging cable, moisture entry, bending stress, or damaged closures.

Perform timely re-splicing, connector replacement, and joint enclosure resealing to maintain long-term network quality.

Conduct periodic power/loss reading comparisons to track fiber performance trend and prevent sudden outages.

Strengthen preventive maintenance and route audits to reduce repeat faults and network degradation over time.

Execute planned preventive maintenance: chamber checks, joint inspection, route marking, and tightening of aerial lashings.

Monitor patrol activities to ensure daily and weekly inspection of critical routes to prevent accidental damages.

Manage FRT team, labours and patrollers.allocate work, monitor attendance,



guide on tasks and ensure quality of field work.

Provide training to team members on splicing quality, safety practices, OTDR testing, and preventive maintenance standards.

Ensure proper handling and tracking of materials such as fiber cable, closures, LIU, patch cords, pigtails, SFP modules, and accessories.

Maintain inventory of fiber tools and equipment like splicing machines, cleavers, OTDR, OLS, power meter, VFL, tool kit etc.

Check calibration and working condition of tools and ensure readiness before dispatching to field jobs.

Maintain issuance and return records to eliminate material loss, misuse and wastage.

Achieve cost efficiency through material reuse, optimized cable route planning, and minimum closure usage.

Reduce dependency on external vendors by leveraging in-house workforce capability.

Reduce repeat incidents and avoidable material consumption through strong preventive controls and fiber protection.

Coordinate with NOC, project teams, vendors and contractors for outage support and deployment activities.

Execute recent rollout, fiber shifting, rerouting, expansion and upgradation projects as per network plan.

Prepare DPR, splice & joint reports, OTDR traces, link loss records and as-built documentation.

Update OSS/NMS systems and share timely reports to stakeholders and management.

Ensure safety compliance, PPE usage, LOTO procedure and safe working practices during all onsite activities.

Follow company and telecom industry quality standards during installation, repair and commissioning works.
