Position Details

- Position Title: Road Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

Pavement Design & Analysis: Perform rigorous pavement structural design and analysis for flexible, rigid, and composite pavements using standard design guidelines

(e.g., AASHTO, IRC, Eurocode, or local equivalents).

Material Selection & Composition: Determine optimal pavement layer thicknesses,

subgrade preparation, aggregate base courses, and asphalt/concrete mix compositions based on traffic loading, subgrade soil strength (CBR), and climatic conditions.

Geometric Road Design: Develop horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections,

interchange layouts, and grading plans using industry-standard civil design software.

Drainage & Subsurface Integration:



Coordinate with drainage engineers to integrate subsurface drainage systems into pavement design to prevent moisture-related degradation.

Rehabilitation & Maintenance Planning: Evaluate existing pavement conditions

(using falling weight deflectometer data, surface distress surveys, etc.) to design overlays, rehabilitation, and life-cycle maintenance strategies.

Technical Documentation & Specifications: Prepare comprehensive design reports,

technical specifications, bill of quantities (BOQ), and cost estimates for tender and construction documentation.

Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with geotechnical engineers, structural designers, traffic planners, and environmental specialists to ensure cohesive project delivery.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a relevant field.

Required Experience:

[e.g., 4 to 8+ years] of professional experience in highway/road design with a strong,

dedicated focus on pavement engineering and composition.

Proven track record of delivering roadway projects from preliminary design through to construction-stage documentation.

Key Skills / Competencies:

Pavement Design Software: Proficiency in pavement design and analysis tools (e.g.,

KENPAVE, EverStress, mechanistic-empirical design software, or equivalent).

Civil Design Software: Robust proficiency in roadway design tools such as AutoCAD

Civil 3D, Bentley Open Roads Designer, or similar software.

Geotechnical & Material Knowledge: Deep understanding of soil mechanics,

subgrade stabilisation, bituminous and concrete mix designs, and aggregate properties.

Design Codes: Familiarity with national and international road design standards, IRC codes, AASHTO guidelines, or equivalent transportation manuals.

Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret geotechnical investigation reports, traffic volume data (ESAL calculations), and climatic data.
