Please read the full post before applying. This is not an entry-level job. We will onboard you on our systems and customers, but we will not teach you freight pricing. Applications with missing, vague or copied answers will not be reviewed.
RRA Group Inc. is a Canadian freight forwarder in Greater Vancouver. Our head office is in Abbotsford, British Columbia, and our operations office is in Surrey. We move ocean and air freight between Canada, the USA and the rest of the world, with in-house customs clearance within our group. One team. Every step.
The role
We need an experienced pricing specialist to quote ocean freight into and out of Canada and the USA. Your main job is ocean pricing, both FCL and LCL. Air pricing is a strong plus. You will build quotes that are accurate, competitive and profitable, and you will be able to explain the numbers behind each one. You will also work close to bookings and documents, so every quote can actually be delivered.
What you will do
- Price FCL and LCL ocean freight, import and export, on lanes to and from Canada and the USA, mainly from Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and Europe.
- Choose the best routing: port to port, rail to inland points (Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Chicago), and door delivery. Compare Vancouver and Prince Rupert with Montreal, Halifax or US ports.
- Get rates from carriers, NVOCCs, co-loaders and overseas agents. Compare them and negotiate when the volume supports it.
- Build complete quotes: origin charges, ocean freight, surcharges (BAF, PSS, GRI, low-sulphur), destination THC, rail, drayage, chassis, and free time, demurrage and detention terms.
- Price air freight when needed: chargeable weight, airline and co-load rates, fuel and security surcharges.
- Keep a rate sheet for our main lanes, track wins and losses, and tell sales when the market moves.
- Work with sales and operations in Canada on bookings, documents and shipment follow-up.
What you must have
- At least 2 years of hands-on ocean freight pricing at a freight forwarder, NVOCC or shipping line. You build the quotes yourself, not just pass rates along.
- Experience pricing lanes into or out of North American ports, and a transparent picture of how cargo moves inland by rail and truck.
- Hands-on shipment operations experience: bookings, documents or tracking.
- Good knowledge of Incoterms, FCL and LCL costing, equipment types, and free time, demurrage and detention.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- Clear, professional written English.
- At least 6 hours a day overlapping 8 AM to 5 PM Pacific Time, Monday to Friday.
A plus Air freight pricing. US filings (ISF, AMS) and Canadian requirements (ACI eManifest). CargoWise, Freightos or WebCargo, or benchmarks such as Drewry, Xeneta or FBX.
Remote setup (you provide this)
Your own recent, fast laptop or desktop. A quiet home office. High-speed internet plus a backup connection you can switch to within minutes. Backup power (UPS, inverter or battery) that lasts your full shift. A headset and a webcam. Power cuts and internet outages are not accepted as reasons for missed shifts.
