JOB PURPOSE The Senior AI Engineer is a hands-on technical leader who designs, builds and operationalizes advanced AI and machine-learning solutions on the McCain AI stack (Azure cloud

- Anthropic foundation models; the Distyl agent harness including Distillery, Context Mesh and Refinery
- Databricks for data and vector
- SAP and Salesforce as systems of record). The role translates complex requirements into scalable, production-ready systems, sets the technical bar for peers, and contributes to engineering standards across AI Platform &
- Engineering. The Senior AI Engineer operates with high autonomy and influences solution quality across the team. When seconded into a Red use-case pod, the Senior AI Engineer is the senior technical voice paired with the Forward Deployment Engineer and is accountable, with the FDE, for the technical success of the use case.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Advanced AI Development

- Design, develop and optimize machine-learning models, agent workflows and AI components on the McCain stack
- Lead implementation of complex AI use cases from prototype through production deployment
- Improve model performance, scalability and reliability across deployed solutions

Technical Leadership

- Serve as a technical expert and informal mentor for AI Engineers
- Lead or significantly contribute to design reviews and architecture discussions
- Set the example for engineering discipline, testing rigour and operational excellence

Engineering Excellence

- Write high-quality, maintainable, well-tested code; lead improvements in testing, deployment and monitoring practices
- Identify and remediate technical debt; raise the reuse and abstraction level of the codebase

Production & Operations

- Own deployment pipelines and production behaviour of assigned AI services
- Monitor model accuracy, drift,



latency and system health; drive root-cause analysis for production issues

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Partner with Knowledge Engineering, AI Deployment & Enablement, Use Case Governance & Operations, and Forward Deployment Engineers
- Translate complex requirements into clear technical solutions and communicate trade-offs candidly

Responsible AI & Governance

- Ensure AI solutions align with McCain security, privacy and Responsible-AI standards
- Proactively identify risks (bias, misuse, compliance gaps) and support governance reviews

MEASURES OF SUCCESS

- Delivery of complex AI solutions with minimal rework
- High reliability and performance of AI systems in production
- Positive technical influence on team design and code quality
- Reduced incidents, improved monitoring and faster issue resolution
- Strong working relationships with Forward Deployment Engineers when seconded
- Consistent adherence to security, governance and Responsible-AI practices

KEY QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including significant hands-on AI or machine-learning work
- Deep hands-on experience with:
- Machine-learning frameworks and production model deployment
- Data pipelines, feature engineering and inference services (Databricks preferred)
- Foundation-model APIs and agent harnesses (Anthropic, Distyl or equivalent)
- Cloud-based AI platforms (Azure preferred) and distributed systems





- Robust system design and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lead technically without formal authority
- Experience in enterprise or regulated environments is a plus

OTHER INFORMATION

- Senior individual contributor role with significant technical ownership
- No direct people management
- Reports to an AI Engineering Manager; when seconded to a Red use-case pod, takes day-to-day direction from the Forward Deployment Engineer
- May require occasional after-hours work for production releases or incidents
- Expected to uphold high standards for ethical and responsible AI use
