Role Description : We are looking for an experienced Senior Automation Solutions Engineer who can translate customer manufacturing requirements into practical, technically feasible and commercially viable automation solutions. The role combines mechanical automation knowledge, electrical and controls understanding, application engineering and system integration. You will work closely with Renechip’s existing mechanical design team, customers, component suppliers and automation partners.

The Senior Automation Solutions Engineer is a full-time, in office role based in Chennai, responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing industrial automation and digital engineering solutions for clients across multiple industries. Day-to-day work includes gathering and analyzing customer requirements, architecting end-to-end automation systems, and leading the integration of PLC, SCADA, robotics, IIoT, and custom software components. The role involves preparing technical proposals, supporting presales activities, and providing expert consulting to align solutions with business objectives.

The engineer will oversee project execution, conduct system testing and validation, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and provide technical mentoring to junior team members. Regular client interaction, documentation of solution designs, and continuous improvement of automation frameworks are key responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Automation Concept Development

- Understand customer manufacturing processes and automation requirements.




- Develop concepts for material handling, pick-and-place, assembly, welding automation, fixtures and special purpose machines.
- Evaluate technologies and alternatives; prepare preliminary layouts, system architecture and concept proposals.
- Conduct feasibility studies, cycle-time calculations and productivity assessments.

2. Mechanical Automation Component Selection

- Select pneumatic grippers, actuators, cylinders, linear guides, ball screws, servo axes and motion systems.
- Identify suitable Cartesian robots, gantry systems, SCARA robots and other automation mechanisms.
- Select components based on load, stroke, speed, accuracy, cycle time and application requirements.
- Identify commercially available components using OEM catalogues and supplier networks.
- Prepare preliminary BOMs with manufacturer, model, specifications and cost estimates.

3. Electrical & Controls Application Engineering

- Define suitable PLC, HMI, servo drive, motor and sensor architecture.
- Select sensors, actuators, solenoid valves, electrical components and safety devices.
- Develop preliminary electrical and control system specifications.
- Understand PLC logic, machine sequencing, motion control and industrial communication protocols.
- Coordinate electrical design, PLC programming, robotics integration and commissioning.

4. Engineering Coordination

- Work with the existing mechanical design team to develop detailed machine designs.
- Review 3D models, layouts, assembly drawings and mechanical concepts; guide automation component integration.
- Coordinate with fabrication, machining, electrical panel and automation vendors.
- Support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and customer acceptance.

5. Technical & Commercial Support

- Prepare technical proposals, concept presentations and preliminary cost estimates.
- Support business development and customer technical discussions.
- Evaluate vendor quotations and technical alternatives.
- Identify opportunities to standardize solutions and develop reusable product platforms.





Required Technical Skills

- Strong experience in industrial automation and special purpose machine development.
- Practical knowledge of pneumatic and electric motion systems.
- Good understanding of mechanical automation components and motion mechanisms.
- Working knowledge of PLC, HMI, servo systems, sensors and electrical controls.
- Experience in component selection using OEM catalogues and technical specifications.
- Understanding of cycle-time calculations, machine sequencing and system integration.
- Experience developing automation systems from concept to commissioning.
- Ability to prepare technical specifications, BOMs and preliminary cost estimates.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following: SPM, pick-and-place automation, material handling, assembly line automation, welding automation, industrial robotics, packaging automation, machine vision, intelligent poka-yoke, or automotive / railway / heavy fabrication manufacturing.

Qualifications

B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical or Electronics Engineering. Typically 7–12 years of relevant industrial automation experience, including customer-facing application engineering and project execution.
