Company Description Exantro is focused on building autonomous drone infrastructure so drones can operate continuously without stopping for power. The team is driven by the belief that the true bottleneck to scaling drone operations is energy availability, not the drones themselves. Exantro engineers stations, batteries, and software that convert individual drone flights into reliable, ongoing services. You will join our growing Bengaluru hardware team of mechanical and robotics engineers, working closely with our Chief Hardware Officer (CHO). You will take full ownership of mechanisms and enclosures, make design calls with incomplete information, and see your designs survive outdoor field conditions. What you will work on
• CAD design and iteration of mechanical parts and assemblies for the station's mechanisms (alignment, latching, actuation, drone-docking interfaces)
• Building, assembling and testing physical prototypes in our workshop
• Design support for outdoor-rated enclosures, including sealing, gaskets and cable glands for IP54/65/67
• Preparing part and assembly drawings that a vendor can manufacture from
• Supporting design for manufacturing (DFM) and coordinating with CNC, sheet metal and 3D printing vendors
• Rapid prototyping with FDM 3D printing and straightforward workshop tools
• Debugging failures on the bench and in field trials, and feeding the results back into the design By the end of the internship you will have worked extensively at least one sub-assembly while assisting with other subsystems Qualifications Must-haves
• Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field
• Hands-on experience designing and building real hardware: a university competition team (SAE, BAJA, robotics, drone or rover teams) or equivalent personal or academic projects
• Working knowledge of a CAD tool (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape or equivalent)
• Solid fundamentals: free-body diagrams, basic stress and strength checks, and choosing materials and fasteners
• Comfortable in a workshop: building, testing, fixing and iterating on physical hardware Nice-to-haves
• Experience with mechanisms (linkages, gears, lead screws, latches)
• Exposure to sealing, gaskets or outdoor-rated designs
• Basic FEA, Design simulation testing Experience
• Complex FDM 3D printing, or familiarity with sheet metal and CNC processes
• A genuine interest in startups and robotics Please include a portfolio or examples of shipped work with your application. Include designs and projects that you previously worked on
