We're hiring a Field Engineer Intern in Chennai who is genuinely comfortable sitting on a farm bund with a farmer for an hour and asking positive questions. What you'd actually be doing:
• Running structured farmer surveys and long-form interviews in the field, in the farmer's own language
• Travelling to villages in human–wildlife conflict districts across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh
alongside the founder, not sent out alone
• Supporting live device demonstrations on real farms: installation, positioning, walking farmers through how it works
• Writing up what you heard
honestly, including the parts that contradict what we believed
• Mapping the ground reality: crop calendars, conflict seasons, which species, local Forest Department contacts, farmer groups and FPOs What we need from you:
• You must speak and understand at least two of: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam. This is the one hard requirement.
Field research doesn't work through a translator
• Prior hands-on experience conducting farmer surveys or field interviews
an internship, an NSS or RAWE programme, a college research project, an NGO stint, an FPO, a KVK. We care that you have actually done it, not where
• Based in Chennai, and genuinely willing to travel
multi-day village trips, early mornings, no air conditioning
• Able to write clearly in English, because your field notes become our product decisions A real plus, not a filter:
• B.
Sc. or M.
Sc. in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering or Rural Development
• RAWE / village-attachment experience
• Any practical familiarity with human–wildlife conflict
elephant, wild boar or nilgai crop raiding
• A two-wheeler and a licence
