Strong, proven negotiation ability is the` most important requirement for this role. The candidate must be able to:
- Price negotiation: negotiate hard and fact-based on volatile, crude-linked materials (MDI / isocyanates, polyols, solvents, pigments) using market price trends, cost breakdowns and competing quotes.
- Commercial terms: secure longer credit periods, better Incoterms, freight inclusion, lower MOQs and favourable price-validity periods to protect margins and working capital.
- Contracts: structure annual / quarterly rate contracts, volume-based discounts and price-variation clauses linked to raw material indices; resist or delay supplier price increases.
- Leverage: build alternate and dual sources (manufacturer vs distributor, domestic vs import) to create bargaining power and avoid single-source dependency.
- Imports: negotiate with overseas suppliers on price, payment (LC / advance / credit), lead time and shipping terms.
- Claims and disputes: settle quality rejections, short supply, debit notes and replacements firmly while keeping supplier relations healthy.
- Track record: show measurable savings achieved in previous roles (e.g., % cost reduction, improved payment terms); candidates will be assessed through a negotiation case / role-play during the interview.
