Department :Production, Stitching Unit
Location :Surat, Gujarat
Timings :Monday - Saturday 9 AM to 7 PM
Experience :5-8 years in apparel / garment production
Reports to :Founder / Operations Head
About the Role
Fashion 1972NE Pvt Ltd manufactures premium bamboo baby and kids apparel under the Cocoon Care and The Boo Boo Club brands. Our in-house stitching unit in Surat operates 40 machines with a 55-person team, producing across Amazon, Myntra, FirstCry, Nykaa, CRED, and our D2C website. We are looking for a hands-on Production Manager to own the floor, from planning and output to quality and people, as we scale.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Output
◦ Own the daily, weekly, and monthly production plan, translate marketplace and D2C demand forecasts into floor-level output targets.
◦ Allocate machine capacity and operator workload across styles and SKUs based on order priority.
◦ Track WIP (work-in-progress) at each stage, cutting, stitching, finishing, packing, and flag delays before they hit dispatch deadlines.
◦ Coordinate with the purchasing team on fabric and trim availability to prevent line stoppages.
◦ Drive efficiency improvements, reduce idle time, improve SAM utilisation, and push output per shift.
Quality Control
◦ Implement and enforce inline QC checkpoints at critical stages, post-cutting, mid-line, and pre-packing.
◦ Maintain DHU (Defects per Hundred Units) within acceptable AQL thresholds for baby apparel.
◦ Ensure SPI (Stitches Per Inch), seam strength, and finishing standards meet marketplace and brand requirements.
◦ Investigate and resolve quality rejections, coordinate with the QC team and line supervisors to close root-cause loops.
◦ Ensure all garments meet baby-safety standards:
no loose threads, safe hardware, appropriate fabric handling for OEKO-TEX certified materials.
Team & Floor Management
◦ Directly manage line supervisors, operators, helpers, and the QC team, a 55-person floor.
◦ Plan and execute daily line briefings, communicate style changes, quality alerts, and output targets.
◦ Drive attendance, discipline, and performance on the floor without compromising team morale.
◦ Identify skill gaps and coordinate operator training for new styles, machinery, or techniques.
◦ Manage conflict resolution and day-to-day HR issues on the floor in coordination with management.
Dispatch & Delivery Coordination
◦ Work closely with the warehouse and e-commerce team to ensure production output aligns with dispatch commitments and marketplace SLAs.
◦ Maintain packing accuracy, correct size, variant, barcode, and labelling before handoff to fulfilment.
◦ Coordinate priority production runs for fast-moving SKUs, urgent replenishments, and festival peaks.
Reporting & Systems
◦ Maintain daily production reports, output, rejection rate, attendance, and machine downtime.
◦ Report weekly performance summary to management with variance analysis and corrective actions.
◦ Identify and escalate machinery maintenance needs before they cause unplanned downtime.
◦ Support the implementation of production SOPs, process documentation, and efficiency tracking tools.
Qualifications & Experience
◦ 5-8 years of production management experience in apparel or garment manufacturing, direct floor responsibility, not planning-only.
◦ Experience managing a unit of 30-60 people including operators, supervisors, and QC staff.
◦ Solid working knowledge of AQL sampling, DHU calculation, inline QC, and rejection root-cause analysis.
◦ Familiarity with knit and woven fabric handling, experience with bamboo, muslin, or delicate baby fabrics is a robust plus.
◦ Understanding of SAM, line balancing, and basic industrial engineering principles for efficiency improvement.
◦ Proficient in basic production reporting, Excel or Google Sheets at minimum; ERP exposure is a plus.
◦ Surat-based or willing to relocate, this is an on-floor, in-person role.
What We Are Not Looking For
× Profiles from heavy industrial or non-apparel manufacturing, garment-specific experience is required.
× Managers who delegate floor presence entirely, we need someone comfortable standing on the production floor daily.
Why Join Fashion 1972NE?
You will own the floor. This is not a corporate production role with layers of middle management, you will have direct access to the founder, a short decision loop, and real ownership of outcomes. As we scale Cocoon Care and The Boo Boo Club across channels, the production function will grow with us. The right person will have the opportunity to build the system, not just run it.
What We Offer
◦ Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
◦ Performance-linked incentives tied to output efficiency and quality metrics.
◦ Direct working relationship with the founder and operations leadership.
◦ Opportunity to define production pro
