About the Role

Mikan Engineering is seeking an experienced HVAC / ACMV Design Engineer to support industrial projects, including projects in Singapore.

The successful candidate will prepare engineering calculations, select equipment, develop design documentation and coordinate with clients, multidisciplinary engineers, Singapore PE/QP consultants and specialist vendors.

The role involves industrial facilities such as control buildings, substations, warehouses, workshops, equipment rooms and ancillary buildings. This is an engineering design position requiring hands-on calculation experience, rather than a drafting-only role.

Key Responsibilities

- Cooling-load calculations: Prepare room-by-room and system-level cooling-load calculations using Carrier HAP, considering sensible and latent loads, equipment heat dissipation, occupancy, lighting, envelope heat gains, ventilation and infiltration.
- Ventilation and pressurisation: Calculate fresh-air, exhaust, air-change and leakage requirements. Prepare room air-balance schedules and pressure-control arrangements, including positive- and negative-pressure spaces, battery rooms and equipment rooms.
- Building-envelope assessment: Prepare or review construction U-values and applicable ETTV and RTTV calculations, with supporting reports and recommendations.
- Ductwork and equipment selection:



Prepare and review duct-sizing and pressure-drop calculations, identify critical paths and determine fan duties. Size and select AHUs, FCUs, fans, cooling equipment, filters, dampers and associated components. Review duty/standby arrangements and maintenance access.
- Engineering documentation: Review project design philosophies, technical specifications, tender documents and existing calculations. Prepare design-basis reports, calculation packages, equipment schedules, layouts, schematics and technical recommendations.
- Safety and multidisciplinary coordination: Coordinate HVAC interfaces with fire-and-gas systems, controls, electrical and structural disciplines. Support hazardous-area, SIL 2 safety-function and blast-protection requirements in coordination with the appointed specialists. Liaise with Singapore PE/QP consultants on design reviews and submission documentation.
- Client coordination and design reviews: Attend online technical meetings, explain design assumptions and results, maintain comment-response records and incorporate agreed changes into calculations, reports and drawings.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.




- Practical experience independently preparing HVAC cooling-load calculations using Carrier HAP.
- Strong knowledge of psychrometrics, ventilation, air balancing, building pressurisation, duct pressure losses and HVAC equipment selection.
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings, equipment heat-load data, specifications and manufacturer selection information.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel, with positive technical-report writing and English communication skills.

Preferred experience

Experience in industrial HVAC design and Singapore projects is preferred. Familiarity with applicable ASHRAE, SS 553, SCDF and BCA requirements, ETTV/RTTV calculations, hazardous-area interfaces and duty/standby systems will be an advantage.

Knowledge of IES VE, Revit MEP or other building-performance and BIM tools is beneficial, but does not replace the requirement for hands-on Carrier HAP experience.
