About Magic Bus
Founded in 1999, Magic Bus works with children and young people living in poverty, in India, taking them from a childhood full of challenges to a life with meaningful livelihoods. We equip children and young people in the age group of 12 to 18 with the skills and knowledge they need to grow up and move out of poverty. Our youth-centered Livelihoods Program connects the aspirations and potential of young people to available market opportunities. We work with support structures like parents, teachers, the community at large and local government institutions to ensure social, emotional and economic well-being for all young people living in that area.
We operate in cities, towns and villages in 23 states including our regional Head Quarters based in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi and Karnataka. Magic Bus also has its global fund-raising offices in UK, US, Germany and Singapore. Magic Bus offers a dynamic work environment for committed professionals interested in learning and growing with the organization.
About Bhabishya Dhara
Bhabishya Dhara seeks to operationalise a School-to-Work (STW) Transition Framework in Odisha, supporting learners from Grades 6 to 12 to build life skills, career awareness and future skills, and to connect their aspirations with education, skilling, training, employment and entrepreneurship pathways. The initiative is being developed with government and ecosystem partners and will be piloted in Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Nabarangpur and Balangir. The programme emphasises convergence across state, district and block systems; curriculum integration; school–industry and institutional linkages; career exposure; and the use of data to guide implementation and institutionalise the model.
Role Summary
The Assistant Manager – Impact will lead the programme’s monitoring, evaluation and learning systems for Bhabishya Dhara. The role will support the design and operationalisation of a practical monitoring framework, dashboards and reporting processes to track implementation, learner participation, exposure and transition-support activities, institutional convergence, and progress against agreed outputs and outcomes. The role will work closely with programme teams, government counterparts and the central Impact function to strengthen data quality, generate actionable insights, document implementation learning, and support evidence-informed decisions and programme adaptation.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Monitoring Framework, Indicators and Workplans
· Translate the Bhabishya Dhara results framework, performance matrix and implementation plan into an operational MEL plan with clear indicators, definitions, data sources, frequency, responsibilities and reporting timelines.
· Develop and maintain indicator reference sheets and reporting formats to track programme outputs and outcomes across state, district, block and school levels.
· Establish processes to monitor key programme components, including committee functionality, ecosystem mapping, curriculum and content integration, capacity building, career awareness, exposure activities, internships/apprenticeships where applicable, and learner transition support.
· Support the programme team in setting realistic targets and reviewing progress against agreed milestones for Phase 1 and Phase 2.
2. Programme Data Management and Quality Assurance
· Coordinate collection, compilation, validation and maintenance of programme data from the five pilot districts and relevant state-level activities.
· Maintain organised datasets and documentation for schools, learners, teachers, career exposure activities, school–industry/institutional linkages,
capacity-building events, convergence structures and other agreed programme indicators.
· Develop data-quality checks to identify missing, inconsistent, duplicate or implausible entries; provide timely feedback to field and programme teams and follow up on corrective actions.
· Undertake periodic field visits to verify data, understand reporting challenges and strengthen data collection and documentation practices.
· Ensure that data is stored securely, access is appropriately managed, and learner-level information is handled responsibly in line with organisational policies.
3. Dashboards, MIS and Data Use
· Contribute to the design, testing, rollout and continuous improvement of the Bhabishya Dhara monitoring dashboard or the strengthening of an existing government/programme dashboard, as agreed.
· Generate regular dashboards and concise progress updates for weekly, monthly and quarterly programme reviews.
· Track disaggregated data where relevant and feasible, including by gender, district, block, school and learner group, to help identify participation gaps and equity concerns.
· Support district and block teams in interpreting dashboard information and using it to identify implementation bottlenecks, follow up on actions and make evidence-informed decisions.
· Coordinate with programme, technology and Impact colleagues to ensure that data systems are practical, consistent and aligned with government reporting processes wherever possible.
4. Assessments, Evaluation and Outcome Tracking
· Support the design and implementation of baseline, periodic and endline assessments in line with the programme’s learning agenda and approved methodology.
· Coordinate quantitative data collection and qualitative field assessments to understand changes in learners’ life skills, aspirations, career awareness, resilience, self-efficacy and awareness of education, skilling and employment pathways.
· Analyse programme monitoring and assessment data to examine implementation quality, reach, participation and emerging outcome trends.
· Support tracking of learner progression and transition pathways, including continuation in education, skilling/training, employment, apprenticeships or self-employment, where data is available and agreed tracking processes are in place.
· Maintain clarity between programme outputs, short-term outcomes and longer-term transition outcomes; document data limitations and avoid attributing changes to the programme without appropriate evidence.
5. Reporting, Learning and Documentation
· Prepare accurate, timely and audience-appropriate reports for programme management, government counterparts, donors/funders and other authorised stakeholders.
· Develop periodic progress reports, data summaries, presentations, case studies, learning briefs and documentation of promising practices and implementation challenges.
· Triangulate monitoring data with field observations and stakeholder feedback to explain progress, identify bottlenecks and recommend practical improvements.
· Capture lessons from district-specific implementation pathways, convergence mechanisms, school–industry linkages and institutionalisation efforts to inform refinement and potential scale-up of the framework.
· Maintain an organised repository of current and historical datasets, tools, reports, assessment instruments and supporting documentation.
6. Capacity Building and Technical Support
· Orient and support programme staff and relevant government or school-level stakeholders on MEL indicators, data collection tools, reporting formats, dashboard use and data-quality standards.
· Provide practical feedback and troubleshooting support to field teams to strengthen timely and accurate reporting.
· Support review meetings with clear data presentations, analysis of progress against targets, and follow-up actions.
· Promote a culture of reflection and learning in which data is used to improve programme delivery rather than only for compliance reporting.
7. Coordination and Other Responsibilities
· Work closely with programme managers, district teams, the central Impact team and relevant government counterparts to align data collection and reporting with programme implementation.
· Coordinate inputs and follow-ups across the five pilot districts and consolidate information for state-level reviews.
· Undertake other relevant responsibilities assigned by the reporting manager in support of programme objectives.
Key Deliverables
· Operational MEL plan and indicator reference sheet aligned with the Bhabishya Dhara results framework and performance matrix.
· Standardised data collection tools, reporting formats and data-quality protocols.
· Functional programme dashboard/MIS and regular district- and state-level monitoring updates.
· Periodic data-quality review notes and documented corrective actions.
· Baseline, periodic and endline assessment datasets and analysis, as assigned.
· Monthly/quarterly progress reports and data presentations for programme reviews.
· Case studies, learning briefs and documentation of implementation lessons and district-specific adaptations.
· An organised and secure repository of programme data, reports and MEL tools.
Education and Experience
· Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Statistics, Economics, Education, Public Policy, or a related discipline. A relevant bachelor’s degree with robust and demonstrable MEL experience may also be considered.
· Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience in monitoring, evaluation, research, MIS, data management or programme documentation, preferably in education, adolescent development, skilling or livelihoods programmes.
· Experience working with government school systems, government partnerships, district/block administration or large-scale education programmes is desirable.
· Experience in designing or managing monitoring frameworks, dashboards, assessments and structured reporting processes.
· Experience with field-based data collection and coordination across multiple locations is an advantage.
Technical and Behavioural Competencies
· Strong working knowledge of MS Excel and other MS Office applications; ability to clean, organise, analyse and present data clearly.
· Experience with data visualisation/dashboard tools and digital data-collection platforms is desirable; knowledge of statistical packages such as STATA, SPSS, R or equivalent is an advantage.
· Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail and ability to translate data into clear findings and practical recommendations.
· Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise reports and presentations for different audiences.
· Solid coordination, facilitation and follow-up skills; ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders across state, district, block and school levels.
· Ability to plan work independently, manage multiple deadlines, solve field-level reporting problems and adapt in a dynamic programme environment.
· Commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, confidentiality and responsible use of learner data.
