Job Description – Assistant Production Manager

Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Assistant Production Manager to support the Production Manager in managing day-to-day manufacturing operations. The candidate will be responsible for achieving production targets, effective manpower utilization, maintaining product quality, reducing production losses, ensuring safety compliance and improving overall shop-floor productivity.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Planning & Execution

- Assist in preparing and executing daily, weekly and monthly production plans.
- Ensure production targets are achieved as per schedule.
- Monitor Plan vs. Actual Production and take corrective action for deviations.
- Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machines and raw materials.
- Identify production bottlenecks and resolve operational issues.

2. Shop Floor Management

- Supervise day-to-day production activities on the shop floor.
- Ensure smooth operation of machines and production processes.
- Monitor machine downtime, production losses, rejection and wastage.
- Ensure proper shift handover and maintain production discipline.
- Coordinate with Maintenance for breakdowns and preventive maintenance.

3. Manpower Management

- Allocate manpower according to production requirements and shift plans.
- Monitor attendance, productivity and performance of production workers.
- Guide and supervise supervisors, operators and workers.
- Train employees regarding production processes, SOPs, safety and quality requirements.
- Maintain proper shift-wise manpower utilization.

4. Quality Control





- Ensure production is carried out as per approved specifications and SOPs.
- Coordinate with the Quality Department for quality-related issues.
- Minimize rejection, rework and process deviations.
- Identify root causes of recurring quality problems and implement corrective actions.

5. Production & MIS Reporting

- Prepare daily production reports and shift-wise production data.
- Maintain records of production, rejection, wastage, downtime and manpower.
- Prepare weekly/monthly production performance reports.
- Monitor key production KPIs and highlight deviations to management.

6. Coordination with Other Departments

- Coordinate with Stores, Purchase, Quality, Maintenance, PPC and Dispatch for smooth production.
- Ensure timely availability of raw materials, packing materials and other production requirements.
- Coordinate with Stores regarding material availability and consumption.
- Coordinate with Dispatch to ensure production is completed as per delivery requirements.

7. Safety & Compliance

- Ensure all employees follow safety rules and PPE requirements.
- Maintain positive housekeeping and workplace discipline.
- Ensure compliance with company SOPs, safety procedures and applicable statutory requirements.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents and near-miss incidents to management.

8. Continuous Improvement

- Identify opportunities to improve productivity and reduce production costs.




- Implement 5S, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing and waste-reduction initiatives where applicable.
- Suggest improvements in production processes, manpower utilization and machine efficiency.
- Work towards reducing downtime, rejection and material wastage.

Required Qualification

- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
- Additional technical qualifications in manufacturing will be an advantage.

Experience

- 5–8 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
- Experience in handling shop-floor manpower and production operations.
- Experience in rubber/plastic/chemical/automobile or similar manufacturing industry will be preferred.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
