Consultant Psychiatrist – Clinical Product & Market Validation Company: XYCHIATRY Engagement: Part-time, contractual (2 months)
Location:
Fully remote Employment flexibility: Other professional engagements permitted, subject to agreed deliverables and confidentiality obligations. Company Description XYCHIATRY develops technology-enabled clinical decision-support tools designed to help psychiatric professionals make informed, efficient, and structured clinical decisions. Our initial focus is the practising psychiatrist managing an independent outpatient practice, with access to emergency referral services when required. We aim to bridge the gap between established psychiatric knowledge, real-world clinical workflows, and practical technology adoption. Clinical reliability, patient safety, privacy, and user trust are fundamental to our approach. Role Description We are seeking a practising psychiatrist to independently evaluate XYCHIATRY from the perspective of its intended users and help us identify and address gaps between our product and genuine market needs. The primary objective is to determine what makes XYCHIATRY valuable—or insufficiently valuable—to practising psychiatrists, and recommend specific, evidence-based improvements that could drive adoption, repeated usage, and willingness to pay. This is a product evaluation and market-validation role, rather than a conventional clinical practice or patient-care position.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Product Evaluation
• Conduct a comprehensive, hands-on walkthrough of XYCHIATRY using representative real-world outpatient psychiatric scenarios.
• Assess clinical relevance, completeness, accuracy, usability, and alignment with routine psychiatric decision-making.
• Identify missing capabilities, unnecessary complexity, workflow inefficiencies, clinical safety concerns, and potential barriers to adoption.
• Evaluate whether the platform provides meaningful advantages over existing clinical resources and practices. 2. Customer Discovery and Market Validation
• Engage with practising psychiatrists to understand their clinical workflows, unmet needs,
and current approaches to clinical decision-making.
• Conduct structured interviews and product-feedback sessions with psychiatrists representative of XYCHIATRY's target users.
• Document recurring pain points, unmet needs, objections, and feature expectations.
• Assess perceived value, frequency of potential use, willingness to pay, and factors influencing purchase decisions. 3. Product-Market Gap Analysis
• Identify and document discrepancies between existing product capabilities and actual customer requirements.
• Differentiate essential clinical capabilities from desirable but non-critical features.
• Identify the specific clinical situations in which XYCHIATRY could offer the greatest value.
• Evaluate barriers to initial adoption, continued usage, professional trust, and commercial viability. 4. Actionable Product Recommendations
• Recommend specific product improvements to address validated gaps.
• Prioritise recommendations based on clinical importance, expected customer value, adoption potential, and implementation feasibility.
• Translate clinical feedback into transparent, actionable product requirements.
• Collaborate with the founder to develop a prioritised, evidence-backed product improvement roadmap. Expected Deliverables At the end of the engagement, the consultant should provide:
• Clinical Product Assessment: Documented findings from a structured evaluation of the platform.
• Customer Feedback Report: Consolidated findings from structured interactions with practising psychiatrists.
• Product-Market Gap Register: A prioritised list of gaps, their implications, supporting evidence, and recommended solutions.
• Product Improvement Roadmap: Specific recommendations categorised by urgency, expected impact,
and feasibility.
• Final Assessment: A clear, independent conclusion on XYCHIATRY's clinical value proposition, adoption potential, major obstacles, and most important next steps. Qualifications
• MD/DNB Psychiatry or equivalent recognised postgraduate qualification, with valid professional registration.
• Practical experience in psychiatric assessment, treatment planning, and longitudinal patient management.
• Experience in outpatient psychiatric practice, preferably including independent or private practice.
• Strong understanding of real-world clinical workflows, psychiatrist decision-making, and unmet clinical needs.
• Ability to critically evaluate digital health products from both clinical and end-user perspectives.
• Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness and ability to engage with professional peers for structured product feedback.
• Familiarity with digital health, clinical decision-support systems, or AI-enabled healthcare applications is desirable.
• Prior experience in clinical product development, user research, healthcare innovation, or product validation is advantageous but not mandatory. What Success Looks Like Success in this role is not measured by the volume of feedback generated, but by the quality of insights and the clarity of recommended actions. The engagement should enable XYCHIATRY to answer:
• Which important problems does XYCHIATRY genuinely solve for practising psychiatrists?
• Which product gaps prevent psychiatrists from adopting or regularly using the platform?
• What changes would most meaningfully improve clinical usefulness and workflow integration?
• Which capabilities would psychiatrists value enough to pay for?
• What should XYCHIATRY build, improve, simplify, or discontinue first? The consultant is expected to provide candid, independent, constructive, and actionable feedback, including when findings challenge existing product assumptions. Please send you Covering Letter/CV at
