Position Summary We are seeking an experienced SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) Developer for a global SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud transformation program. SAP MDG is co-deployed with S/4HANA ERP in Classic Mode, supporting Business Partner (Customer and Supplier) and Material Master governance. The developer will design, build, enhance, test and support technical solutions across SAP MDG Central Governance, Consolidation and Mass Processing, and Data Quality Management. This is a hands-on technical delivery role, working closely with MDG Functional Analysts, Solution Architects, integration teams, business SMEs and the MDG Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities
1. Central Governance – Technical Development
• Develop and enhance SAP MDG Classic Mode solutions for Customer, Supplier and Material, including change request processing, staging/active-area data handling and governance workflows.
• Implement ABAP OO enhancements, BAdIs, enhancement spots, custom classes, function modules and services for validations, derivations, defaulting, field controls and business rules.
• Configure and extend MDG data models, entity types, attributes, relationships, UI structures, change request types and process steps in collaboration with functional consultants.
• Build and troubleshoot BRF+ decision tables, rule-based workflow logic, agent determination, approvals and workflow exits; support Web Dynpro ABAP / FPM UI enhancements.
• Implement duplicate checks, search enhancements, key/value mapping, data replication and integration enhancements using DRF, IDoc, SOAP and OData where applicable. 2. Consolidation and Mass Processing
• Develop and extend MDG Consolidation and Mass Processing scenarios, including source data ingestion, matching, duplicate identification, clustering, cleansing, best-record calculation and activation/replication.
• Configure or enhance consolidation process steps, matching and survivorship rules, data transformations, field mappings and exception handling based on the MDG release and installed capabilities.
• Support mass-change processes, selection criteria, change execution, validations, error resolution, monitoring and performance tuning for high-volume master data.
• Work with functional and data migration teams to reconcile source records, golden records, mass-processing outcomes and downstream replication results. 3. Data Quality Management
• Implement SAP MDG Data Quality Management capabilities, including data quality rules, validation checks, quality evaluations, monitoring and remediation processes as supported by the deployed solution.
• Develop reusable ABAP/BRF+ validation and derivation logic and integrate rules into Central Governance, consolidation or mass processing where technically appropriate.
• Build or extend quality checks, exception reports and data quality KPIs; troubleshoot false positives, rule execution issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with Data Owners and Functional Analysts to translate data quality requirements into maintainable technical logic and measurable outcomes. 4. Technical Design, RICEFW and Integration
• Review Functional Design Documents (FDDs), prepare Technical Design Documents (TDDs), assess feasibility, identify dependencies and provide development effort/story-point estimates for MDG RICEFW objects.
• Develop custom reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms and workflows as applicable; follow clean-core, secure coding, naming and transport standards.
• Debug end-to-end MDG processing across ABAP, BRF+, workflow, FPM, APIs and integrations; analyze application logs, failed replications and data inconsistencies.
• Collaborate with SAP Integration Suite, Basis, Security, S/4 functional and data migration teams on interfaces, authorizations, transports and release readiness. 5. Testing, Agile Delivery and Production Support
• Create and execute developer unit tests; support functional, integration, regression, SIT, BST and UAT cycles with technical defect investigation and fixes.
• Use Jira and Xray to document development progress, unit-test evidence, defects and retesting; participate in sprint planning, refinement, reviews and story-point estimation.
• Coordinate code reviews, peer testing, transport sequencing and deployment activities; support cutover, go-live and hypercare across multiple regional releases.
• Provide timely delivery status, estimates, risks,
blockers and technical dependencies to the MDG Technical Lead and Project Manager; work within sprint priorities set by the delivery team. Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
• 6+ years of SAP ABAP development experience, including 3+ years of hands-on SAP MDG development or technical configuration; at least one end-to-end MDG implementation preferred.
• Solid practical experience in SAP MDG Classic Mode co-deployed on SAP S/4HANA, ideally covering BP Customer/Supplier and Material Master.
• Demonstrated ABAP OO, BAdI, enhancement framework, debugging, performance analysis, BRF+, workflow and Web Dynpro ABAP / FPM experience.
• Experience translating functional specifications into technical designs, building MDG RICEFW developments and supporting complex SIT/UAT defects.
• Hands-on experience in Central Governance required; practical exposure to MDG Consolidation/Mass Processing and Data Quality Management strongly preferred. Candidates should be able to explain their specific contributions in each area. Technical Skills and Preferred Experience SAP MDG: data and process modeling; change requests; workflow and BRF+; validations and derivations; DRF; duplicate detection; key/value mapping; consolidation, matching and best-record rules; mass processing; data quality checks and monitoring. SAP development: ABAP OO, CDS views, OData, SOAP, IDoc/ALE, BAdIs, enhancement spots, Web Dynpro/FPM, SQL trace and debugging. Delivery: Jira, Xray, Git or equivalent source controls where used, SAP transports, code reviews, agile delivery, and production support. Preferred: S/4HANA Private Cloud, SAP BTP / Integration Suite, SAP MDG extensibility, HANA performance optimization, global-template rollouts and experience working with offshore/onshore consulting teams. Role Expectations This is a hands-on developer position, not a purely functional or project management role. The developer owns assigned technical designs, code quality, unit testing, defect fixes and development estimates. The Functional Analyst owns business requirements, FDDs and business test scripts; the Scrum Master owns sprint ceremonies and Jira administration; the MDG Project Manager owns overall delivery commitments, risks and executive status reporting.
