Role Overview We are looking for an experienced Shopify Team Lead – AI-Enabled E-commerce to lead the architecture, development, integration, and delivery of scalable, high-performance Shopify e-commerce solutions for Shop LC. This role combines hands-on Shopify engineering expertise with technical leadership and AI-enabled software development practices. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in Shopify Plus, modern web technologies, custom application development, API integrations, event-driven architecture, and cloud-based services. In addition to leading engineering delivery, the candidate will drive the adoption of AI-assisted Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) practices to improve developer productivity, code quality, automation, and overall engineering efficiency. The role requires a hands-on technical leader who can build and mentor a high-performing engineering team while establishing AI-first development practices and scalable engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities
1. Shopify Engineering & Architecture
• Lead the development, enhancement, and maintenance of Shopify Plus and Shopify-based e-commerce platforms.
• Design scalable solutions using Shopify Liquid, APIs, GraphQL, Webhooks, Shopify Functions, Extensions, and Custom Apps.
• Own technical architecture, system integrations, performance optimization, security, and scalability.
• Review technical designs, architecture decisions, source code, and pull requests to maintain engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, DevOps, QA, and Business teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions. 2. Custom Application Development & Integration
• Lead the design and development of custom applications and backend services supporting Shopify ecosystems.
• Develop scalable applications using React, Remix, Node.js, and other modern web technologies.




• Design and implement Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) and API-driven architectures.
• Build and maintain integrations between Shopify, enterprise systems, and third-party platforms.
• Develop reusable APIs, services, and integration components to support business requirements.
• Ensure application reliability, maintainability, security, and performance. 3. Event-Driven Architecture & Backend Engineering
• Design and implement reliable event-driven systems and asynchronous workflows between Shopify and backend applications.
• Work with Apache Kafka, including producers, consumers, topics, partitions, consumer groups, retry mechanisms, and error handling.
• Manage Shopify Webhooks, including registration, event processing, reliability, retries, idempotency, and monitoring.
• Leverage Redis for caching, session and token management, distributed locking, and performance optimization.
• Design and maintain reliable backend services and integrations with appropriate error handling and fault tolerance. 4. Database Management & Optimization
• Design, develop, and optimize database solutions using PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Work with database schema design, stored procedures, complex queries, and transaction management.
• Ensure data consistency, concurrency management, and efficient database connectivity through connection pooling.
• Manage data migration, synchronization, and integration across multiple systems.
• Implement effective caching and database performance optimization strategies. 5. AI-Enabled Engineering & Development Lifecycle (ADLC)
• Drive the adoption of AI-assisted Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) practices across the engineering team.
• Leverage AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, and equivalent tools to improve development productivity.
• Integrate AI into different stages of the development lifecycle, including:
• Requirement analysis and refinement
• Technical solution and design generation
• Code generation and development
• Unit and integration test generation
• Code reviews and debugging
• Documentation and refactoring
• Test automation and deployment support
• Establish effective human-in-the-loop development practices to ensure quality, accuracy, and accountability.
• Define AI-assisted coding standards, engineering guardrails, and governance practices.
• Evaluate AI-generated code for security, performance, scalability, maintainability, and architectural compliance.
• Develop reusable prompts, coding patterns, AI agent workflows, and engineering standards.
• Explore and implement AI agents, agentic development workflows, and automated engineering processes.
• Drive AI adoption across the team to improve development speed, engineering quality, and overall delivery efficiency. 6. Team Leadership & Delivery Management
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Shopify engineers and full-stack developers.
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications, user stories, and development tasks.
• Provide technical direction, conduct architecture discussions, and oversee code and design reviews.
• Ensure timely delivery of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Establish engineering best practices around coding standards, automation, testing, and observability.
• Provide technical guidance during production issues and incident resolution.
