About The Role
We are seeking a seasoned Design Engineering Manager to lead our Automation and Special-Purpose Machine design practice in Bengaluru. This is a hands-on technical leadership role: you will spend roughly 75% of your time on project execution as a technical project leader and independent contributor, and 25% managing, mentoring, and guiding a team of design engineers. You will own design projects from concept through customer delivery; shaping scope documents and proposals, driving design reviews with customers, and ensuring your team's deliverables meet the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design Execution Develop design concepts for automation systems, special-purpose machines, and other design projects as an independent contributor. Serve as technical project leader drive concept design and work with the team to develop machines and designs to completion. Execute mechanical design engineering projects and provide technical solutions to customers. Prepare engineering calculations to support designs (selection of cylinders, mounting bolts, gears, and mechanisms). Prepare scope-understanding documents, project requirements documents, and estimations for proposals. Present design concepts in internal technical reviews and customer design reviews.



Work on assigned research topics and prepare consolidated presentations. Team Management & Quality Guide design engineers in creating all design deliverables and quality-check outputs before delivery to the customer. Review and verify that drawings created by the team meet customer standards, GD&T; requirements, BOM, and documentation-release norms. Ensure adherence to quality standards and project timelines across projects. Allocate approximately 75% of time to project execution and 25% to managing and mentoring the team. Collaboration & Project Management Coordinate with suppliers for component development. Support manufacturing teams from a design perspective and resolve design issues raised during manufacturing using structured problem-solving techniques. Drive and implement cost-reduction initiatives through Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE). Work with cross-functional teams including Analysis, Electrical, Embedded Software, and Manufacturing. Provide project-management support, including project progress reports and weekly timesheets. Required Skills & Experience 15+ years of specific experience in mechanical design (automation, special-purpose machines, and related design projects). Ability to develop scope documents and concept designs from verbal briefs or direct customer requirement discussions. Proficiency in 3D CAD packages (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Creo, or Inventor). Strong knowledge of assembly structuring logical grouping of parts into sub-assemblies. Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes and a good understanding of engineering materials. Ability to prepare clear, easily understandable presentations for internal and customer design reviews. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Experience working with international customers is an added advantage. Educational Qualification Diploma / BE / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
