Through stories, imagination, and caring relationships, we help children develop hope, strengthen their sense of self, and begin to believe in new possibilities for their future. The OpportunityWe are seeking a talented, resourceful, and hands-on leader ready to take the next step in their career as Country Manager – India. This is an opportunity for someone who has successfully managed teams and programs and is ready to take broader responsibility for leading an organization. The Country Manager will oversee Bookwallah’s India operations, bringing together people, programs, finances, and partnerships to ensure our work continues to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives. Working closely with the Founder & Board, you will have the autonomy to make decisions, strengthen the team, improve systems, and help shape Bookwallah’s next chapter. We are looking for someone who combines sound judgment, initiative, empathy, and the ability to turn ideas into action.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop the team: Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance through effective people management and mentoring.
• Oversee programs and operations: Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of Bookwallah’s libraries and storytelling programs across India.
• Manage finances and systems: Oversee budgets, resource allocation, reporting, and operational processes.
• Strengthen partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with partner institutions,



community stakeholders, and local supporters.
• Drive organizational effectiveness: Translate priorities into action, solve problems independently, and strengthen systems for long-term sustainability.
• Safeguard children and measure impact: Uphold child protection standards and support effective program monitoring and evaluation. Experience & QualificationsWe are looking for someone with approximately 7–12 years of relevant qualified experience, including at least 3–5 years of demonstrated team leadership and operational management. Experience in the nonprofit, social enterprise, education, or community development sectors is preferred. Candidates should have proven experience managing teams, budgets, and programs, with strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Experience working with vulnerable children, managing programs across multiple locations, or leading organizational improvements would be an advantage. Candidates should be based in Mumbai or willing to relocate and be comfortable traveling to program locations. Previous experience as a Country Manager is not required.
